Re: An evening of 1989 Bordeaux not blighted by TCA

Just had another 89 GPL when MichaelP was in town, my first since BWE Denver when I was impressed with the wine. This bottle was nearly as good, shy on the nose but filled with Pauillac goodness - graphite, leather, cassis. A touch lean but otherwise a classic.

Re: An evening of 1985 Bordeaux blighted by TCA

Too bad about the TCA. The 85 Magdelaine is high on my list of wines I’d love to try. Besides the taint, how are the 85s holding up? Are they in Drink Now territory, or Drink Or Hold still? I was seriously wowed by a double blind bottle of the 85 Lagune 2 years ago at Dale’s place. I keep seeing it ...

I’m gonna try hard to make this, but it will be a very hard sell at home given my hall pass to attend BWE Bordeaux later that same month. PS. Just spoke to Kim, and plane tickets are pretty cheap from Denver ($200). So we may try to all come for a family weekend in DC to see the Smithsonian, Air &am...

Jim, given the caps we’re hearing from the chateaux, I’d vote for locking in the 22 as the limit and start a waiting list from there. Just my 2 cents.

Happy 40th, G&T! An amazing milestone.

I see the incredible 90 Monfortino in that pic — one of the best wines I’ve had — which I was lucky enough to enjoy once with you both, Ian, Alex and my brother at Fabio’s in 2008. Great memories. BWE rocks.

Is 06 to 05 as 83 is to 82? Overshadowed and overlooked? I’ve had some very nice 06s. Their biggest flaw is inflated prices left over from the 05 inflation insanity. As such, 01, 02 and 04 were much more attractive buys while being wines of similar quality.
