Re: 1996 Lafon Rochet - a fond farewell

I've done this with plastic wrap, and have seen it turn a DNPIM wine into an under-fruited mediocre wine after a few minutes of swishing a bunched-up wad of wrap in the glass. I think it binds enough of the TCA to make the wine more or less drinkable but does not come close to restoring it to a norm...

Re: President Trump

Mike Pence is more dangerous for domestic policy, Trump for foreign policy. I agree with this. My take is that Congress at least can be somewhat of an anchor on domestic policy. A loose cannon in the White House can quickly do irreparable damage internationally as there is very little Congress can ...

David, that Real Clear Politics poll summary includes results going back to August 1st. This is August 27th. August 1st is ancient history. Just like August 27th will be ancient history come October 1st, and Nov. 1st. etc. Brace yourselves, my Maryland liberal DC, beltway friends. The universe is n...

I didn't buy any 2015 Bordeaux. And I'm not even Chinese.

My age and the size of my current holdings would likely have held me back even if prices had been 20% lower.

Sure, I can see big ticket items being a high risk for fraud, and I have no doubt that John Fox' lack of scruples would be no barrier to their sale. And I've read the stories about middling wines being counterfeited. But I kind of doubt that Fox was actively involved in fencing large volumes of midd...

I never paid much attention to Wine Enthusiast, but I agree in general with this article. It's no longer a guaranteed financial win to buy en primeur. I liked 2004 Angelus, Clinet and L'Evangile in 1994, though not up to par with their top years. Agree with Ian regarding Margaux and Latour. As with all vintage generalizations, there are exceptions. But I had more thin underwined duds than winners from 1994.

John Fox plead guilty to one count of fraud in return for a maximum sentence of 6 1/2 years in prison.

The judge called his operation a Ponzi scheme running from 2010-2015. Fox also admitted that he began cheating customers in 1993 or 1994.

Details here.
