Re: So what have you bought lately?

Well, let us know. I have some 09 Chasse (and 09 Poujeaux), but I have been afraid to open one. I know what you mean about half bottles. Back when I used to buy futures, I often would get half bottles. They are such a civilized format, especially for work nights. I have over 100 half bottles of 05 B...

Re: Bordelaise Sauce - what's your favorite way to make it?

This thread is making me hungry. My favorite "sauce" for virtually everything, but especially steak, is high-end olive oil. I buy a case of vintage-dated, single varietal Italian (usually Tuscan) olive oils from Rare Wine each spring, and I treasure these elixirs. Rich in antioxidants, it ...

We are not worthy.

I’ll never forget that pour I got of the 89 in Denver 2019. Along with the La Mission, it was in another league and amazingly youthful against the other 89s in the room that night.

Re: 2016 Sociando Mallet... oooh la la!

I am optimistic about the 16 SM, but it is riper/sweeter/less tannic than the 03 was on release. I never found the 03 overripe, it’s biggest difference for me was the chewy, glycerin-infused midpalate. It probably has lower or softer tannin than most prior years too, but I recall it having more obvi...

The 2016 Sociando was for sure the biggest, ripest Sociando I have ever had. It was pretty un-Sociando like to me, although not a bad wine. +1 (with the caveat that I’ve not tried the 09, 10 or 15). I like Jancis' notes because even though they are written in a somewhat random way I trust that they...

Ian, thanks. I feel better now about being 7 bottles in the hole already. But then, I only opted for 1 case of wine for the year purchased in the USA. I’ll probably pick up a mixed case or two in London and France, depending if I can wrangle out of VAT or not.
