Re: COVID and wine - not a great combination
Not a fun thread folks. COVID has upped its game. I recommend using a product called Nozin https://www.nozin.com/ and masking of course. I bought a pack of disposable N95s. So far we have avoided COVID. Nozin can reduce bacteria present in the nose and subsequent postoperative wound infections. As ...

Happy belated birthday Jim, and welcome to Medicare! Funny, I do the opposite and let myself go before my annual blood work and doctor visit. I figure if I'm not in trouble after a couple of months of my worst behavior, I should be OK for another year. Love the stories about your adventures in polit...

I'm not swayed by the whataboutism, Jim. And I don't care if this makes him look stronger to his loony followers. Trump tried to kill democracy. TWTSNBN
Leoville Barton
Montrose
Rauzan Segla
Sociando Mallet
Vieux Chateau Certan

I've been buying Tbills and rolling them over for a chunk of our fixed income assets. Literally and arguably financially less liquid than the wine in the cellar.

So sorry to hear Danny. Peggy had that the first time around. I was bringing her meals upstairs for almost 9 months, and the brain fog took almost a year before it completely cleared. That was in February 2020, so no Paxlovid back then. I hope yours clears faster.

My favorite TIC rating system was Stuart Yaniger's "Three Stooges Wine Rating System." I gave it three Curlys with a woo-woo-woo. Sadly, it no longer appears to be available on the web.

Peggy got the original version in early 2020. Almost total loss of smell/taste for 6 months. Slowly returned, with bad smells and bitter tastes coming back first. Took about a year to get back to normal. She got a very mild case of the omicron version in 2022 and had reduced taste/smell for a week o...

Re: Introducing the new Comte Flaneur Scoring System (CFSS)
Ian, it’s a logical scoring system from your perspective and for those who take the time to understand it. For anyone else it will be confusing. It sounds like you enjoyed the Elio Grasso, “an ideal mid-weeker” even though it had its limitations. The first impression most would have to a -1 score is...

I don’t try to age Beaujolais either, though I don’t worry about it fading away over 5-10 years either. I never feel guilty about pulling a bottle “too soon.”

Stuart Pigott is English but lives in Germany and writes about German wines. James Suckling employs him to make travels to Beaujolais and write about wines. He is very fond of Mee Godard's wines and loves Jean-Marc Burgaud's Yes, 95p and up. It's funny how few wine critics find the time to learn to...

I’ll pile on to say I’ve been enjoying the ‘05s and agree with Mark about them starting to show well. I think they are still on the upswing. Some I’ve been afraid to open. I get the willies every time I eye Angelus or Pavie, fearful that they may bludgeon me to death with over-ripe fruit and bury me...

Quite a string of outstanding wines Izak! Thanks for the report. I’ll have to search for some of these. I’ve had the Coudert Clos de Roillette thanks to Joel and agree it’s excellent. 2016 👍👍👍 I agree Nic. I think I prefer the 2016 for the long term and the 2014 for right now. Geez, I drank through a whole case of the ‘14 already. But it’s early days. The 2016 is riper and less “light on its feet” than the more typically Sociando 2014. I think that gives the ‘16 more long-term p...

Just noodling, not asking…
Patrick, I concur those are the likely top contenders. I’d lean towards Sociando and a recent vintage, 2018, 19, or 20. Second guess would be Cantemerle ‘cuz the other one is The Wine That Shall Not Be Named (TWTSNBN). Whaddaya think?

So red, French, Medoc. Yet to be clarified whether “Medoc” refers to the entire region encompassing N. and S. Medoc and whether it includes the more specifically named communes or if it means only those properties outside of them. We’ve ruled out Pauillac, St Estephe, and Margaux and are waiting on ...

Re: Caymus 40th Anniversary 2012
If more oak, more extraction, more ripeness, more everything is what Caymus was going for with the Special Selection back in the late ‘90s, I wouldn’t be shocked to hear that a bottle of the regular cuvée was more enjoyable.
