TN: Baccio Chianti Reserva 2009

Baccio Chianti Reserva 2009 Brilliant ruby red with earth and hints of cherry on the nose. The oak is very well integrated in this wine and it is medium bodied and juicy with good structure and balance. Very refreshing acidity and should pair great with food. Great cherry fruit on the palate. Has re...

Burgundy Devils Strike Again...

Burgundy’s Embarrassment of Riches By ERIC ASIMOV In a dozen years of tastings, the Dining section wine panel had seldom if ever faced a joyous trove like this one. We each had before us 20 glasses of red Burgundy from the 2010 vintage, all from villages in the Côte de Nuits, somewhat modest wines i...

Just barely translucent dark ruby red. Earthy nose with subtle spices and black cherry, blackberries.Med bodied, 12.5% alcohol. Lovely tannins and great balance. Beautiful texture and good structure. More blackberries and cherries on the palate. Great finish! Some menthol and leather develops on the...

I liked the 06. A second bottle was more evolved than expected but Warehouse has crappy storage. No old bones but no big bucks, either. I wonder about St. Estephe in hot vintages, or is it that they are going commercial.

Re: TN: Domaine Jacky Truchot Morey-St-Denis 2005

My question is, if Duband has been making wines for Dom. Feuillet since '91, then which wines are Truchot and which are Feuillet, etc. It seems that the Truchot wines were made in a very traditional style and that it's unlikely those processes would be retained. A lot of these Burgundy folks don't g...

Yes, it seems Domaine Francois Feuillet has the Truchot vines, but how they are deployed, blended, distributed, etc. is a mystery to me. A nice description of the story is here:

Thanks, JM. Jon, I'm not sure but it's possible. David Duband works with this negociant/money guy Francois Feuillet who has a large domaine, Domaine Francois Feuillet. I used to sell their wines when I was a sales rep. I could never get to the bottom of the Jacky Truchot question, but I think it's p...

Yea, BD! The ban is lifted! One of the great things about 2009 is that you know there's an equally great, yet different and characterful vintage right after it. Well done, BD

La Fleur de Jaugue 2009 St. Emilion Grand Cru This is a wine that I used to love, and hopefully will love again. Re: Guidelines for tasting young BDX? Wally's UGC 20

This would be my approach: Do some good homework, reading up on the wines and paying attention to what my favorite critics say (if I still had any, other than Michael Broadbent and Burghound). Then, I would go there and look for balance, as they all say that's a key for good aging. I would try to th...

I had the Clape VDA 2009, which I thought was great. It was closed at first but opened up to show good fruit, body and potential over the course of a very nice lunch. The 2010 Mon Coeur was ready to go and brighter, rounder and more complex. Let me know what you think when you try Mon Coeur 2010.

2010 JL Chave "Mon Coeur" CdR Not having tasted this cuvee in awhile, I wasn't sure what to expect. Past examples were a bit stern, suggesting that they needed time to come around. The 2010 vintage is a beauty, and the wines seem to drink well right now. This wine was no exception. Opaque ...

Jim, I've been appreciating Ronny Wood more and more. On a certain level, and I know that this is blasphemy, he is better than you know who. I think that producer is a bit modern and forward, but really good, nonetheless. I had a Savigny from them a few years ago and it sounds similar to your wine. They are Burgundy Devils.

I think corked bottles come in bunches. The worst for me was bringing two bottles to a BYOB restaurant with one non-wino friend and both bottles were badly corked.
