Re: 2009 Lafite, Latour, Margaux, and Palmer

dstgolf,

You got it wrong - Alex and me went to taste above mentioned wines Thursday afternoon the 1st April.

Agree with Alex on the description of these wines, but for me those three FGs aren't 100 point wines and aren't better compared with 2005 vintage.

Bernard Magrez visiting Copenhagen....

Last week a famous owner of several properties in Bordeaux, Bernard Magrez, visited Copenhagen. invited by Danish wine merchant, H.J.Hansen. He owns a total of 35 properties over the world - 20 of them are in Bordeaux. Bernard Magrez believes back label is important so customers know who is the man ...

Re: Bordeaux 2009

Stefan, It was the second time I tasted PC 1990, but I rate it higher than Cru Bourgeois level. In my report there's a passage concerning Anabelle Cruse Bardinet from Chateau Corbin, who really said some wise words about 2009. While 2005 was served for winemakers on the silverspoon, it certainly won...

Thanks Jim, Having missed 2005 harvest by sickness, I wanted to be present during 2009 one, but I've already was "warned" in July that something special was underway. It was my 10th harvest and it reminded me of 2000 concerning excellent sanitary conditions of grapes. And the grapes were s...

Re: Vintage visits to Margaux and Pichon Comtesse

My TNs are close to Alex. Actually I went back to Margaux during yesterday afternoon afternoon and overlooked harvest of excellent Petit Verdot. When Petit Verdot is fully ripe then vintage is excellent. Yes, it'll be interesting how Bordeaux people will price 2009. I hope however, that common sense...

Looks like 2009 has all the potential to exceed 2000 and 2005. In 3-4 weeks we'll know better.

On my website http://www.greatbordeauxwines.com, I update news about 2009 constantly based on calls to several chateau owners.

Comte Flaneur,

I find your comments far too ironic and far too personal. It's really under the belt.

I don't know and frankly don't want to know why you've been expelled from Squires. You've just entered my ignore list.

St.Emilion - end of nightmare/Climens vertical

I'm very surprised that nobody posted news about French government passing a law about 1996 classification standing with 2006 classification upgrades - 2 properties upgraded to PGCC and 6 properties upgraded to GCC. Properties degradated in 2006 classification are still where they were in 1996. Clev...

Re: 6 Bordeaux with Sunday lunch

Alex, I think your bottle of Nairac 1997 was an off one. Normally, it should have flattened the other Barsac wine you had. Nairac 1997 has great reputation, is almost as stunning as Yquem 1997 and it certainly doesn't lack botrytis! I don't quite follow your assessment of it. :o Tasted it 3-4 times ...

sdr,

I'm sorry to sound a bit rude, but your notes on younger vintages of Margaux are totally outrageous You don't seem to understand these wines at all!

I tasted 2006 both in April 2009 and October 2008, 2004 in October 2008 and 2003 in October 2008 and my TNs are totally different from yours.

All you should know about 2008: 1. Many wine writers have already doomed the vintage in early September. 2. Very few even dare to come to Bordaux during the harvest. I've been to Bordeaux harvest in 1985, 1988, 2000, 2001, 2003, 2004, 2006, 2007 and 2008, so I really know what I'm talking about! Hav...

Not overblown as it sometimes appears to be. At the right price, it's pretty nice value for the money. Btw, Cotes de Castillon did extremely well in vintage 2008!

ChrisW,

The wines i mentioned are worth to buy in 2008 if price is right.

I will think about posting Climens tasting notes here in the near future.

Sauternes & Barsac are in my opinion lighter and not so rich in 2008, than in 2005 and 2008.

Yes, it was hell of the trip.
