Re: 2007 Haut-Marbuzet

Ahhh.... Haut-Marbuzet. j'Adore. Still have a 1990 cellared. A traditional property, but in a good way. 2007... No balsamico tones towards the finish?

Re: 2004 Brane-Cantenac and 2000 La Prade

I believe the best combination is Excellent Terroir + Excellent Winemaking + No Overextraction. Unfortunately, most properties are unable to deliver this package.

Re: 2004 Brane-Cantenac and 2000 La Prade

LOL! Yes, it can! And I know of several so-called low-end Bdx being able to outperform a 1855-GCC. I remember wines like d'Aiguilhe, Haut-Macô, Faizeau and the likes from various satellites doing really well. Nowadays 'terroir' is being overshadowed by winemaking, so anyone can win.. :D

Re: 2003 San Leonardo and 2008 Cantemerle

Hi Rudi!
A few years ago I had this 02 Cantemerle. It was for 14 Eur, so it was worth a try. How can such a decent terroir / skilled team (hence 89, 08, 09, 10 etc) make utter plonk in a vintage like 02? I also had Lynch-Moussas 02, also for a song, and it wasn't any better.

2009 and 2010 Cantemerle are still available for 25 Eur here. I picked up some for the next decade(s).

Re: Leoville-Langoa-Barton vertical

Excellent notes. I only have the Langoa 2001 cellared, but tried younger vintages at the chateau in 2007. Léoville is bigger, more serious. Langoa can be a notch more friendly, elegant. IMHO.

Re: 2003 San Leonardo and 2008 Cantemerle

Hi all,
First post here after several years (on MSN).
Cantemerle can be stunning. Have a few 09's and 10's cellared, but never had the '08. Must check it out. BTW, the '89 was stunning and '02 was utter crap.
