I'm really pleased with how the BWE DC convention is shaping up!
With the additional DC crew that Joel is rounding up, it sounds like quite a barn burner!
Looks like a critical mass of folks are arriving on Thursday, we'll have to organize something for that night!
Let's get it on!

Re: President Trump
Jesus Christ, now Joe has Covid. The other side has a tanned blonde god, fist pumping in the air, the blood of battle streaming down his face, hot secret service agent hugging him tightly, American flag in the background against a bright blue sky, beseeching his followers to "fight!" Our s...

Re: President Trump
But hey, you know I’ve agreed with you more often than not Marcus on these Trump issues. In the end the Democratic leadership really has only itself to blame here. With all these strong candidates on the bench, the best we produce is Joe. That’s pretty sad. You know one thing that I have found inter...

Re: President Trump
I predict Trump/Vance won’t accept the results of the 2024 election if they lose, or 2028 for that matter. He incited a riot on Capitol Hill in an election where he pretty much lost in an electoral landslide. He hired lawyers to litigate lies that got a bunch of them disbarred. He spread Big Lies ab...

Re: President Trump
Well, he did appoint three US Supreme Court justices, which will change American jurisprudence for the rest of our lives. Not to mention the damage done at the federal circuit and district court levels. And he tried like hell to overturn an election, we’ll see if we’re so lucky the next time around.

Re: President Trump
For me, I've just been in a funk about this for the past few days. It's just too much. I've seen so many people dead from gunshot wounds in my law practice, too many who die on video, be it a security camera, a police body cam, etc. These homicides don't happen like in the movies. They are just horr...

This is just mind boggling what happened yesterday. How could there have been a line of site from that rooftop? That just cannot happen. Heads need to roll in the secret service. A millimeter to the right… good grief.

Nice Winona!
We're off to Paris again in September, then possibly Asia.
Working hard and playing hard.
Life is good!
Looking forward to the DC convention, it looks like we are going to have a good crowd.

Indeed David, I agree with everything you say. I enjoy Nicola and Alex’s notes on wines that I’ve never heard of, even though I don’t really have much to say about them. It’s hard to believe, but a lot of my actions these days are now being driven with my age taken into account. This is a difficult ...

Re: 2022 Château Turcaud
So if I drink two bottles per week (on average) over the next 14 years (when, morbidly, I hope to die in my sleep at age 80), that means I will drink about 1,456 more bottles of fine Bordeaux. I currently have about 1,150 bottles in my cellar. This does not leave much room for Chateau Turcaud.

Re: 2022 Château Turcaud
I’ve never heard of Chateau Turcaud in 30 years of drinking Bordeaux. I have only so many evenings left in my Bordeaux wine drinking career, why would I drink this unknown estate on a Thursday night over the plethora of other Bordeaux wines I can drink, and is this wine beyond supermarket level qual...

Looking forward to seeing you and Lucie, Stefan, now in our 24th year. Incredible, really, friends together on this crazy little site for a quarter century, through all the travails. Sipping on a 2020 Cantemerle tonight, mmm doggie. Bordeaux -- and BWE -- is as good as it ever was.

Re: 2023 Bordeaux En Primeur purchases
I like your mindset for planning, Jim, but I doubt that Stefan is using the same "formula." My last vintage purchased (one case only) was 2020, which will be 9 years old when I reach 80. That sounds just about right, Jon, I think the 2019/2020 vintages are going to be drinking nicely at a...

I’m in a hunker down mode right now, Mark, with the imminent return of Orange. I see world instability on the horizon, which will filter down to such urgent matters as the wine world. Re: 2023 Bordeaux En Primeur purchases
So if my math is correct, my last vintage purchase will be in six years, purchasing the 2028 vintage when it hits the shelves. The 2028 vintage will be my last vintage, because that is the last vintage that will have at least ten years of aging when I am 80 years old. Okay! This is a liberating calc...

Re: 2023 Bordeaux En Primeur purchases
Calon Segur has unfortunately gotten pricey. Interesting comparison to Magdelaine. I imagine I'll stop buying at some vintage, 2020 seems like a good place to stop but I doubt it! I'll have to do the Jim How Age 80 Equation, i.e., what vintage at age 80 will be at the ten year mark, that will be my ...

Re: Oui, oui!
Soft shell season in Maine is pretty much the beginning of July to mid-October.
