That is a great picture, JimHow. It's pretty cool to taste these big wines as they evolve over the decades.

I had it over a couple of days, and being open didn't seem to change it much, so perhaps its at a plateau for consumption. It was better with a few chunks of cheese, though. To me, th...

Quite the lineup. It seems to me, that even with perfect provenance, that there is plenty of natural variation in a material like a cork closure, leading to bottles in the same case offering differing experiences. As we get to half century marks on some of these, it just comes with the territory.

d'Arenberg wines sometimes come over here too. I would have thought more would have shown up beyond a small flurry 6-12 mos ago, when it seemed like some Asian supply was redirected to the states. I went through a half case maybe in its first 10-12 years of life, along with a couple cases of La Dame, and found it to be good of course, but still primary/youthful. Given how long it took years like 70, 75 to round out it is probably starting to hit its stride now.

In a deja vu moment, my sister and I polished off a bottle of the 2016 Clos Floridene 'blanc' [Graves] with a similar dish - browned sweet sausage and onions in a (jarred) creamy basil sauce over fedelini with charred Brussels on the side. This vintage is 13% abv; it's a blend of 56% sauvignon blanc...

I used to analyze credit risk in a prior life, and I don't think buying EP makes any sense in the modern era. At one point it did, and buyers were 'paid' for the risk they assumed. Now its all reversed. ======== For those willing to take the risk, the WDC trick of using a shopping portal to buy smal...

At $40 each I was happy to buy more '16 Siran, but I'm not paying that for their second wine. That’s a bummer... I don’t know how 19 Siran compares with 16 Siran, but o...

GeneM and I had one of Rostaing's older Cote Rotie's last summer, before they had named the base blend 'Ampodium'. It didn't show well among the other wines, but prior experiences with the vintner have been good. From what I have read, he's not a likable person, even if the wines are.
