Re: Waiters Corkscrew
Piling on here, the Pulltap's is the real deal for a two-step waiter's corkscrew. The Durand is great and an essential tool but the ah so part is like pushing a brick into the neck of the bottle. I swapped out the impressive looking but crappy, cork shredding original tongs with the Westpark Monopol...

Re: What are we drinking in the Omicron ominous?
Tonight I opened the second of three bottles of 2015 Chapelle de Potensac that Rye Brook Wine & Spirits sold me as 2015 Chateau Potensac. At a better than expected price for Potensac and a crappy price for La Chapelle. I guess I won't be looking at their deals ever again. At least the wine is o...

Glad to see you home at last, Jim. As no doubt you are as well. I watched a few episodes of the trial and Gail and I both watched final arguments. It seems unfair (and I hate to and rarely use the word unfair - no one should expect life to be fair) that the prosecutor gets a second final argument af...

Next time, talk the team into trying the Dalforno Romano Valpolicella. Not as intense as the Amarone but interesting and fun.

Alex, maybe you got too steamed up over one of your hot buttons to read all of my post? ;) Maybe the double negative of "That's not to say the 2nds aren't good wines" was confusing. My first comment was indeed wrong - I said "The first wines of lesser estates (by ranking) have ALWAYS ...

To start, I have always been a "never second". The first wines of lesser estates (by ranking) have ALWAYS been better at whatever price point you might have in mind. I did a quick wine-searcher review of 2nd wines in the 2014 and 2015 vintages. OMG, the prices for the 2nds of the 1sts are ...

Re: Which comes first the wine or the cellar....
We had double deep individual bottle racks in our our old cellar. Getting to the back bottles of the bottom two or three rows required laying on the floor. I'm too old for that $#!+. We put drawers at the bottom of our racks! They hold 60-66 bottles or so , based on diameter of the bottle. So maybe ...

I saw some of the testimony. After he shot the first victim -- oh, wait, we're not allowed to call them that! -- people turned on him and then he got to clainm that each subsequent shot was self defense. After 9/11, people who feel they are under attack should not be expected to take it like sheep.

Congrats, Dan and family! Many happy days ahead.
Our kids were born in 1985 (easy choices for birth year wines) and1987 (pretty much California, but plenty of good choices.) Of course, the 1987'er is the one who's into wine, with a real focus on Italian wines. The nuts don't fall far from the tree!

I had a rant about the discrepancy between scores at several wines in vintage 2020 on Facebook the other day. Visiting the website of Farr Vintners, I saw a difference of 10 points between scores for one property. We are many wine critics right now, many indeed. Must be a vast difference in tasting...

Antoine,
While 2019 yields were higher than average, the major estates ($$$) just declassify to get the number of bottles more consistent each year.
Can anyone guess what I think was the reason for decent pricing? COVID-19, of course!
Cheers,
Tom
