Re: 1996 Sociando Mallet is a failure

I went through a case of the 96 and thought the wine was excellent but I believe there is a lot of variability with SM. The 2000 is either great or decent and I'm not sure why that is the case. The 2000's I have opened have been good to excellent and when I looked back at my purchases, the excellent...

Beaune absolutely killed it in 2005. Hanging on to mine for a few more years although, I must say that a recent Pavelot Dominode was spectacular. Pure, deep fruit a streak of palate-cleansing acidity with moderate tannin and wonderful length.

Wishing all BWE members well.

All I can say is that 2016 Fronsac is epic. Fontenil, Beausejour, Vielle Cure, Dalem...all outstanding. Traditional, great streak of acidity, drinkable and worthy of the cellar. My kind of vintage and what a QPR!

I also agree with Felix. A modern version of '86 but better across all regions. Of course, this is what is great about Bordeaux....vintage styles. There are times that I want something like an '86 or '05 with a particular cuisine as I view these sorts of vintages as "food wines".

Sticking with my original suggestion. I have had enough ‘14 and ‘15 to know that I like these two very much. A bit speculative on the others as I have not tasted them but friends in the business that I trust suggest that both ‘16 and ‘17 are the real deal as well.
