Hi Peter - great to see you post! We have one space now and if we anyone drops you can have a second slot as well.

Do you want the single slot we have available now?

100% agree with JoelD. And just like Napa, there is a wide variety of styles so while most are fruit bombs, they aren't all. Just that most of what is widely available in the US are.

Thanks Arv - fixed it.

We're dining outside, so they might not check, but I'd still bring your vaccination card or have a picture of it on your phone. Both are acceptable forms of vaccination proof for SF dining.

Re: BWE SF dinner - Sat 13 Nov 2021

We've now come up our plan for the BWE SF dinner on 11/13. Location: Piperade, 1015 Battery St in SF. We've had multiple BWE events at Piperade before and they've always done a good job. Time: 6PM, Saturday November 13th Logistics - we will have the outside patio to ourselves at one large table. The...

We are working on getting the restaurant set. Many "usual suspects" aren't open, especially on Saturday night. I would expect we would have a direction on the restaurant situation by the end of the week.

Just self-tested on my return to SF and showed negative. I hope that the same is true for everyone and that we showed that it is possible to get together in a group to share wine even during a pandemic if we all take care of ourselves, get vaccinated, and test frequently.

Good question! If pressed, I'd probably pick the 1999 Clape we had in Denver, but it would be very close. 1999 was very good in the Northern Rhone, and I think they are drinking really well right now.

As Jim put it, another epic BWE main event. Every time we get together I am reminded of the strength of our camaraderie and how fun it is to get together with all of you. A bunch of great champagnes to start. My favorite was the 1996 Dom, but the 2008 Bollinger wasn't too bad either. Then the cavalc...

Re: A Friday Night with BWE in DC

Friday night was a super evening. Great wines, great folks. My favorite wines of the evening were the 1987 Montelena Cab, the 2001 Beaucastel, and the 1999 Jamet. It was a great treat to try the multiple vintages of Togni Cab, all the different 2001 CdPs, and gems like the 1983 La Chapelle. Good stu...

Belated congrats Howard and Lisa! I had a truly profound bottle of 82 PLL about 20 years ago. The other couple of times I've had it since it was very good but not at the same level. Based on my limited experience, I agree with Ian that it is in decline from an extremely high peak. Of course, I could...

My point of view is that what matters the most is the ability for all of us to talk with each other and share wine. When I have booked venues for BWE gatherings, I've focused on the ability for us to have a complete room/area, fixed corkage, and then if the food is decent, that's a bonus. If we don'...

Great bottle last night - 1993 Lamarche La Grand Rue. Mature in appearance but youthful on the palate, almost electric. Blood and cinnamon on the nose, dark cherry and five spice on the palate. Linear attack and finish. Very long.

One of the best bottles I've had this year.

I too have been lucky enough to have 1989 and 1990 Lynch Bages and Pichon Baron many times over the years and I have no surprise that you thought that with the exception of a poor bottle they were all equivalently good. Wow! What a great honor you have bestowed on me, BD. I am unworthy but delighted. 2017 Domaine Georges Vernay Condrieu Les Chaillées de l'Enfer. Loads of white and yellow stone fruits, lemon and an oily (in a good way) mouthfeel. Very long and moreish.

I love Condrieu. Too bad the good stuff is usually expensive (like anything from Vernay).
