We liked the one we BWE stayed last convention in Chicago. We had a room with the river view. Awesome!
We should be able to make it this time too. Can't wait.

Re: Notes from an impressive Chianti tasting

Thanks for the notes, Patrick! I have the same impression for the Rufina Ducale as Jon. The Monsanto could be really good in some vintages like '98. And they are rather consistent year in and year out. The Chianti wines are totally food-oriented. It could be harsh without food (new vintages anyway)....

Re: Ducru Beaucaillou 2003

Patrick, There are a lot of great ones, like '59, '61, '66, '70, '82, '95, '96, '00. But Stefan said it, there are also other classic clarets like '76 and '78, which are delicious. Good bottle condition is the key, under which any vintage before 1980 is worth a shot. The mid- late '80s could be prob...

Is there any wine made in the similar style 15-20 years ago, which we could get a peak what these wines could become?

Re: Ducru Beaucaillou 2003

I tried it when it first came out. My impression is: not as nuanced, classy or mineraled as '95, 96, or '00 (comparatively muddy to the latter 3). I am not sure if it was the vintage or the wine making style changed a bit (I think it's the first year some one new in charge of the wine making.) I fel...

"There are no great wines, only great bottles." Great bottles are great but preference is above all. '61 might hit it bigger but '59 is my preference. '82 is greater than '83 but my preference is on '83. '05 might have more in everything but 2000 is just perfect for me. I can see others ha...

I had it once, and by blind. Strangely it had the telltale basics of the Pichon Lalande but without all the usual flesh. I was given a wine and asked to guess what it was. First sniff, it had the Paulliac pencil lead nose, then the taste the smooth lalande frame, but the wine was so simple and as dr...

Stuart, Sir, can I have what you ordered? :)

To all,

I wonder if we need to decant most of the wines given what posted are about 10 years old or younger. 3-4 hours for airing would be enough? Or 8-9 hours (barolo)? Hope they are not in a dumb phase given enough airing.

See you soon!
