Re: SF '11: What are you bringing?

We would need some wines for the following categories: 1. Champagne JimHow: 2002 Dom Perignon We need at least 5 more bottles of Champagne for the reception from 6-7pm to go with the hors d'oeuvres. 2. Blind tasting: We need 2 bottles of a same wine, and a total of 12 bottles. If we end up with the ...

Re: Friday night in San Fran

Just so people know how to plan the dinners, most restaurant usually are closed at 10:00pm (some even at 9:30pm) Thursdays. For Fridays, they are open till 11:00pm. This is the case for Incanto and Delfina (Italian food).

I have just booked a table at Delfina for 6 people on May 19th at 5:30pm. If we have more people who want to join us, let me know in the next few days so I could book another venue (Incanto) for a bigger group. Delfina can only seat max. 6 people at a table. We have 6 people right now, as Chris and ...

Re: SF '11: What are you bringing?

I like the idea of blind tasting 1989 vs.1990. It's too young for 1995 vs. 1996 for now, I think. I have some single bottles of 1989s which I could contribute.

It seems we have 5 people left for the Thursday dinner now:
Ian + 1
Werner
Howard and Lisa

It might work out better, as I am looking into Delfina which seats max. 6 people at a table.

Let me know, guys, and I will make the reservation in the next few days once I hear from you.

Re: What was your first full case purchase?

It's probably the '66 Ducru a few years ago. I bought one first in southern california at Chris' brother's house and it was a sublime wine. Then back home I was haunted by it and when I saw it available in a local store, I made the plunge and bought more than 12 bottles (it's more like 3-4 bottles f...

Re: Rating Bordeaux Vintages of the 1990s

Rating vintage is being personal for me.

I rate the vintage of having the style I like higher. I probably rate '94L higher than '90L, not to mention '95L, '96L, '98L, and '99L. I haven't tried '97L, '91L, '92L, or '93L yet (ok, maybe 1 or 2 bottles).

I am a mess at this, as I don't think I follow producer or vintage as much as my own taste (like JonB?). I usually pick the grape varietal I like and go with it. I forget which month the Monarch do migrate. If it falls into May/June, you might want to stop by Santa Cruz to see them, while you are here in SF for the BWE convention. They usually stop by the big pine trees at the ligh house.

Thanks for the notes, Bacchus. It sounds like it follows the path of the '88 vintage in terms of characteristics?
