I am continually blown away by BWEers. Nicola for his amazing tasting skills (I am terrible at double-blind tasting) and Ian for his patient hosting and generosity. Impressive!

Great lineup! Sounds like lots of fun.

I like the idea of having big events like this during the day. I do not sleep well or feel great the day after big wine events - I am an earlybird. What a drag it is getting old.

Great report, Alex!

I am a big fan of aged Tempier, especially La Miguoa. Pradeaux is a great Bandol rose.

And I like the report on Cassis. I was there a number of years ago and the port is beautiful. I'm hoping to visit again in late September.

Re: 2002 Las Cases

This looks like a good time to begin drinking the fancier 2002s. Have you drunk any of the 2002 Firsts yet? I've drunk three of them. The Latour is the best of the lot and surprisingly approachable. I think it will hold for a long time but its already drinking well. Haut Brion is also approachable ...

2002 Las Cases

Decanted about 2 hours before serving. Fully mature and while the tannins are big, they are refined and resolving. Classical lean mouthfeel, very 2002. Not particularly large or long but tastes like Las Cases. Will hold for a while. I enjoy wines like this. They taste like Bordeaux. It reminded me o...

Re: The price of aged Bordeaux has gone insane. But why?

Look at a chart of the money supply from early 2020 on and you will have your answer. This. I don't think these prices will keep going up at this rate, but I don't think they are going to drop much either. Too much money chasing limited assets. As money is now increasingly worth less (inflation), p...

Congrats on your Dad's 93rd B-day! The 1982 Talbot is an exceptional wine. Try the 1986 Talbot if you get the chance - very similar and one of my "aha" wines back in the day. My Mom turns 93 on March 24th - any of us with parents that old and still in good shape (which my Mom is) should co...

Re: Dinner in Ft. Lauderdale Part 2: Haut Brion.

How were the 1998s? Last time I had them the Haut Brion was approachable and rich but would improve with time and the LMHB was a monster with enormous potential but at least a decade from reaching its peak and would likely be at its best when its 40 years old or more.

BWE and Haut Brion - a great pairing. We had a very broad Haut Brion BWE main event in Dallas one year that was excellent but didn't have all those older top vintages. I just decanted a 2003 Leoville Barton to commemorate the 22nd anniversary of the founding of BWE. It is a great wine in a great place. 1998 Right Bank and Graves are awesome. My biggest problem is that I've drunk most of mine. My favorite Cote Rotie producer is/was Gentaz, but that's not really fair (he stopped making wine in the early 90s).
