Re: 2015 vintage discussion

I'm concerned that you may be right Patrick. They're just not as "interesting" as in the 1980s. I'll probably pick up 2-3 bottles of Pape Clement, I think it's $82ish at Zachy's. That 2012 Clos Marsalette I had recently was perfect to the point of boring. The 2012 Barde Haut struck me as s...

Every once in a while I still get a paper catalogue from Sherry Lehman.
Remember those great old paper mailings from Premier Cru. Ah, memories….

Re: 2015 vintage discussion

The pricing on 2015 futures seems to be pretty reasonable so far, no?
As Jeff said, though, there probably won't be a need to buy the wines I'm looking for as futures.
Still, Cantemerle at $30, Haut Bergey at $22, Chasse Spleen at $29, etc., etc., seems to be pretty fair.

Re: Gonna "How" a GPL with some fresh grilled tuna...

I have no problem whatsoever drinking red Bordeaux with tuna. The '12 GPL is a "pleasant" 90 point wine. At $48, I'll buy a couple more bottles and How them within the next 5-10 years.

Mmm ahi poke sounds good.
My greatest tuna/wine experience, I've mentioned before, Jackdaw brought a 1996 DRC Grands Echezeaux to that dinner in NYC… Heavenly.

I wanted to re-try the 12 GPL, planning to buy 3-4 more bottle if I like it as much as I did the first time.

Yes, Boston is a wonderfully complicated place. It's the whole New England Puritan, Catholic guilt thing.
A lot of it has to do with the complicated seasons, I think.
Great city though. But, yes, fucked up in the head.

Re: TN: 2003 Pavie

Back around 2004 in NYC in Times Square at our 2000 dinner, when we had the winemakers from d'Issan, Corbin, and Lagrange there, we had some epic 2000 Bordeauxs, including the 2000 Pavie. It was my wine of the night, and a few other felt the same way. Some BWEers had brought the '82 Pavie and were t...

Re: A Bernard Magrez wine.

First of all, this is from 2010… which may just be the greatest across-the-board Bordeaux vintage ever. Secondly, for me, this wine will have a soft spot. We were at a seafood restaurant in the old section of Bordeaux last spring, their wine list was dominated by young Magrez reds. I ordered a 2010 ...

Re: The Issue 224 wines I'm interested in buying pre arrival.

I have had about a case of 2009 Haut Bergey and about six bottles of 2010 Haut Bergey. They're both lovely wines. Nothing profound, mind you, but pleasant Bordeauxs, especially for the price, and I actually find them quite true to Pessac and their respective vintages. While someone like me finds the...

Indeed, Ian, 1989 Lynch Bages first came into my consciousness in the mid to late 1990s. I remember being in a wine shop in Falmouth, Maine, probably around 1998 or so. I had three bottles of '89 Lynch in my hand. It was starting to get pricey, I remember it at $75 by that point. "Hey Jim,"...
