Re: Just call me the white Burgundy man....
Like most of burgundy, Niellon’s prices have sadly shot up. Definitely a BWE effect.

Re: BWE in Manhattan….
Someone once wrote that, compared to Willie Mays, we are all but mere mortals. Indeed, perfect wines are so rare. To add a little additional counterpoint to our deservedly glowing reviews of these wines — it was an epic wine night, up there with the best of them I’ve been to — a “critique” and score...

Re: President Trump
Most of the time, it seems the choice we are given is: (a) prosecuting (let alone convicting and incarcerating) the former president will utterly undermine and weaken our democracy, vs. (b) letting Trump get away with it will utterly undermine and weaken our democracy. Assuming for the moment the ri...

Re: BWE in Manhattan….
I think the lowest I scored anything this night was 93 pts (aside from the Laville), and based on potential I’d probably go as high as 98 on the Mouton.

Re: BWE in Manhattan….
If I could vote again, I’d move the Mouton to my fav, the LLC to number 2, and the 96 Cos to third. Everything showed so well. I liked the 94 PLL more than Ian. The Latour was brilliant, as well as the Lafite, but both are still a long ways from their apogee. I also really loved the Ygrec and the.Ru...

Re: BWE in Manhattan….
Great write up, Ian. Our impressions converge quite well despite being at opposite sides of the table. By the cold light of day, I am asking the BD to use his powers to halt the vote certification and ask for a recount. I have an alternate slate of electors who’d like a word about the brilliance of ...

Great photo from a great night. Here’s a list (complete?) of what we enjoyed: > 18 Ultramarine Heintz rosé sparkling > 07 Ruinart rosé champagne > 01 Laville Haut Brion > 15 Ygrec > 82 Cos d’Estournel > 85 LLC > 89 Pichon Lalande > 94 Pichon Lalande > 96 Latour > 96 Mouton > 96 Cos > 98 Lafite > 86 ...

Re: President Trump
Yeah, this really isn’t a first amendment issue. I can well and truly believe something, say that a wine store is too expensive and I was ripped off when I found the same wine cheaper elsewhere (and I am allowed to say this on BWE as loudy and often as I like, speech is indeed protected), but my int...

Re: President Trump
Given the high bar involved in proving intent, as Howard’s article makes crystal clear, one must assume the prosecutors have compelling witness testimony and evidence — the recorded call to Brad Raffensperger is probably just the tip of the iceberg. What if someone like Mark Meadows comes forward an...

Two bottles of the 1998 Domaine de Chevalier (rouge) at auction. I really enjoyed the 2000 DDC recently and these 98s were quite fairly priced, so it seemed compulsory.

This really stood out at the 2016 UGC event, after which I bought 6 bottles of it, so I’m eager to hear how it’s developing.

Re: Two Moutons and various other things
Other than the 82 and 86, I've had very limited success with Mouton (and Latour, but I've had so few of those). In contrast, Haut Brion and Lafite almost always are a thrill.

Well done, BD. I bought some 2019 LMHB recently using the same logic (a US-wide low price certainly helped).

I've not noticed this in the States (yet). Of course, the go-go days of the 2021 auction market in the USA hasn't returned, but I haven't seen any systematic lowering of wines over here.

Re: So what have you bought lately?
So I assume you guys have found CellarRaiders a reliable source of old Bordeaux? He often has stuff I am interested in but I have been gun shy so far. People swear by Cellaraiders, but I gave up because too often bottle conditions were not described (because VHS is “normal for wines from the 80’s”)...

Re: 2014 Duhart Milon
I like the 2014s in general more every time I try one. Fortunately I grabbed some on release (but I need to backfill still) and that was pure BWE insider enablement, akin to Jim’s prescient championing of the 02 LBs. I think the 14s might be even better than the 02s and of course ‘14 was strong on b...

Great notes as always, Ian, and very useful as I have several of these in the cellar awaiting the corkscrew.
