Re: What’s your 89 Lynch Bages?
Alright, Jim. My 89 Lynch is 1990 Angelus. Convinced me that Parker and my taste in Bordeaux wines mostly agreed. And lead to a great cellar of which BWE and wine friends get to enjoy.

Re: Creme de tete
Suduiraut has a Cuvée Madame. I remember Parker commenting in the 80s when most Cuvée Madames started. He had concerns that those producers were robbing the quality of the basic wine by removing the best barrels for these cuvées. He even felt his tastings supported this.

Re: 40th anniversary 1982 first growth dinner
Wonderful evening it must have been. These are all first growths, so not surprised at all at the showing. Also, tasted by Brits who love their aged wines. The 82s that I declared drink up were all non-firsts and there were unfortunately no overlaps in wines with the convention wines.

My first Durand failure
1996 Montelena Estate C S. Kept in temp and humidity controlled cellar. Absolutely dry cork except near the wine. The Durand cored out the cork. Even with the ah so attachment. Luckily the wine was stupendous!

The 82s. Some thoughts
I've had some time to process the bacchanalia that was the 2022 convention. The main thing I came away with, other than the comradery and renewal of old acquaintances was the wines. There were many outstanding examples, but I was most intrigued was the 1982s. IMO, they need drinking up, unless you k...

Certain cloudiness is in lead crystal and the lead leaches out. I read a while ago how to ameliorate this but the gist of the article was it likely would never return to perfect clearness. I generally avoid using lead crystal decanters for safety and aesthetics.

Claudius, one factor not mentioned in your DB late 80s summary is that they KNEW there was a problem and did nothing for the consumer who purchased the bad wine. I will not buy/have not bought DB since.

Jay, my thoughts exactly. Late 70s and up to mid 80s Cordier "funk" was Brett. When sold they went to clearer practices and eliminated this IIRC.

Re: 2010 Medoc and Pessac tasting. What a controversial night.
Mark, interesting notes. IIRC, when 2010 was released it was considered very tannic and needing age. 2009 was the more open vintage. 10 years later is still in the grey area that may still be in the closed phase. Your notes reflex your experience, but I DEFINITELY would revisit in 10 years more. Als...
