Re: Chasse Live from.....

Thanks Guys. The Pouilly-Fume is light and lovely with grass and smoke with a big and I mean big seafood platter. The Vacqueyras is sublime with rotisserie chicken, which is delicious. The wine is medium bodied, tannins mostly resolved, but just enough left to help the juicy, spicy chicken taste fan...

Chasse Live from.....

La Granja Peruvian restaurant in Bensonhurst, a new boite and a BYOB. Just opened a Chapelle-St-Arnoux 2005 Vacqueyras, and it is singing right out of the gate. Also a nice Pouilly-Fume 2010 'Coteau des Girarmes.' The Vacqueyras is perfectly aged and was a steal at the little wine shop by the subway...

It's really funny. The way the local press talks about the Yankees, I thought that they had won around 105 games. imagine my shock when they lost and I found out they won 95.

Re: Baseball and Bordeaux

The Tigers didn't have momentum? Their pitching totally stifled the Yanks, and then they rolled over and player dead for SF. They made some horrible plays in the field. That stuff will kill you. Bottom line, they choked, big time. I know, it happens but i always find this kind of sweep-sweep scenari...

Re: Baseball and Bordeaux

It's looking pretty much all Giants at this point. I don't have any problem rooting for the ex-NY Giants. Did they ever win it in San Fran before two years ago? And I love that stoned out looking pitcher; reminds me of an Eagle Scout I once knew.

I love '96 LB, absolutely! I just think there are some wines here and there that are a little underwhelming, and maybe those are the ones the 96LB detractors are talking about.

I always love to read your notes, Stefan. I have to add, this impression, and Claudius' that follows are to me probably the reasons why 'some people' downplay the '96 vintage on the LB. Some of the wines are just not that expressive. Not that I have ever encountered one ;-)

Better get a sling for your jaw, Hound. But at 90 pts, is it a nice price? I can't imagine the wine is less than great in this vintage, but you never know. Sometimes even the best of 'em drop the ball.

TN: La Demoiselle de By 2009

La Demoiselle de By 2009 This is the second wine of Rollan de By. I was very happy to find it at an otherwise really pedestrian little wine shop by the subway in Forest Hills. Also, it didn't cost $20, which they normally would charge for a good French wine, but $12, which is an excellent deal. Ruby...

Re: What happened to Greysac?

I drank a number of the 2005 and 2006 Greysac. The 05 was a bit inconsistent, but very good at its best. The 06 however I thought was great the 3 or 4 times I had it. Classic style, not over-oaked, with good structure and balance and great QPR. My notes should be on here.

Rodano Chianti Classico 2006 Some maturity showing in the rich purple robe. Leather, hint of tobacco, earth, black cherries in the enticing and bold nose. TN: Chateau Le Grand Housteau 2009 Cotes de Bordeaux

Chateau Le Grand Housteau 2009 Cotes de Bordeaux Another '09, this time a cheapie. This wine was on sale from like $15 or so down to a measly $9. Opaque purple with some lighter red and 'milky' highlights, the nose was not terribly memorable. The wine was medium bodied (for these days) and a tad rus...

Re: Little did you know...

The vintage ratings begin with '95. They only rate red Bordeaux and Sauternes, not dry whites. They give '01 a 29. The ratings are done by Howard Stravitz, and U. of South Carolina law professor. Maybe we should induct him into BWE? He gives 2005 reds a 28, and '09 gets a 27.

Re: If 2002L is best and 2006 is next best, what comes next?

2009 is totally different from 2005. The texture is completely different, much more open, although you can't say that '05 was open at all. Totally hard as nails from day one. '09 is much more giving. It has a kind of rugged charm. Need I say more? '05 is a monk's wine. '09 is more of a game keeper's...

Re: If 2002L is best and 2006 is next best, what comes next?

As I have been saying, 2009 kicks major ass. It is the first vintage since 2000 that has really leapt out at me and made me say, 'wow!' I know I don't really have the experience to say this, but with limited knowledge, my guess is that '09 is somewhat similar to '89. Big, ripe tannins, and tons of d...
