TN: 2011 Domaine Servin Butteaux 1er

2011 Domaine Servin Butteaux 1er Fairly deep gold. Oak and butter on the nose that softens with time. Minerals and spicy oak on the palate. Long mineral finish that displays some bitterness although not unattractive. Citrus, orchard fruit, yellow apples on the nose and the palate. Young. Evolves sub...

Incredible notes, as always. But I have to add, there is no reason why a 23 year old Savigny should be showing its best.

I think Meyney is undervalued. I'm a big fan of the Meyney 2005. A traditional Bordeaux with grip and class.

TN: Caronne St. Gemme 2010

Caronne St. Gemme 2010 Dark, opaque purple. Currants on the nose, vanilla, hint of mineral. Tons of currants on the full bodied palate. Good, tannic finish with currant fruit. Definitely a left bank wine, 60% Cabernet, 35% merlot, 5% petit verdot. Very good acidity, good balance. Not over-oaked. Fin...

That's interesting about the '05. One of my colleagues said he loved it and drank several cases worth. Never tried it myself. Your local's price is excellent. We charge $17.50 at Garnet. Wish I had tried the '09.

TN: Tour St. Bonnet 2010

Tour St. Bonnet 2010 Nose a bit shy at first with asphalt, vanilla and earth. Soon cherry flavors develop on the nose, and it eventually opens up without 'leaping from the glass.' More cherries on the palate, plus the minerals and vanilla. Rich, round and 'medium bodied,' at least by today's standar...

Re: A marvellous Côtes du Rhône

I have to agree with OrlandoRobert that I have been disappointed by some recent CDR's that I've tried. It has always been a go to region for me - I love CDR! But a number of 09s and 10s I have recently tried have been just as OR described, and many of my favorites I'm not seeing around.

I really liked the '03 around the time of release. Anyone tried that lately? I don't think it was overtly woody but rather tannic and very dry.

Re: Other TN from the last week-end, with my bro

Domaine Grand Veneur is a basic CDR? I will have to try it. I think we sell it at my job for around $10. It's impressive that a 2005 CDR at that level would last for 8 years.

I think I had the 2008 and 2009. The '08 was a little dull but in more of a classic style. The '09 was very good with excellent structure. I'm wondering if the '08 might have turned into something a little more interesting with two more years of bottle age. Odd about the '10, but I think these 'supe...

I have a friend who knows a ton about Italian wine, and he thinks that the Chianti Classicos are generally more to his taste than the Riservas. TN: Badia al Monte 2008 Chianti Classico

Badia al Monte 2008 Chianti Classico Dark, translucent purple. Great nose with milk chocolate, oak, merde, earth, cocoa, tobacco, black cherry. I had always wanted to try this wine, but never did until last night, when I tried the 2010. It was a little tight at first, and I worried that it was way too you young. Domaine Ramonet Chassagne-Montrachet Rouge 2009 Deep purple color and full-bodied, this wine is a poster child for its vintage. TN: 2005 Chasse-Spleen

2005 Chasse-Spleen or is that Chasse-Spleen 2005? An important question, because I liked this my namesake wine in the 2005 vintage, but it is hard to say whether it is more Chasse-Spleen or more a 2005. Double decanted. Opaque, dark purple. My personal chef said it was very extracted but I didn't re...
