That was what I was thinking as I was reading your comments. It must have been an amazing evening with those wines - not a single loser.Holy cow....
So much for the notion that the 1982s are "in decline."

Thanks for sharing your experience with a fabulous lineup of wines, most of which I am unlikely to taste. Seems amazing how well the 1949 and 1953 have aged. I had a chance to drink a 1949 Gruaud Larose, thanks to a friend with a deep cellar, who knew it was my birth year. It was surprisingly youthf...

As my wife said to a friend who works at an organization called Galvanize Action (look them up), we are doing a happy dance here in Michigan. Not only did Dem incumbents win all the major state races, but they now control both houses of the legislature - for the first time since the mid-1980s. Credi...

Jim, I concur with your view that the House will go to Republicans, but I'm hoping for the Senate to be Democratic - even if it relies on the VP to break ties. That will at least minimize the damage to the country, other than a sh**load of House investigations that will do nothing to deliver constru...

I've not had many 1982's, but of the ones I've enjoyed, I would put Pichon Lalande and Gruaud Larose near the top. Interestingly, I was at a vertical tasting of Pichon Lalande hosted by a former BWEer, Rich Julien, where the 1986 was amazing, and the 1982 was only great.

I was mildly hopeful about 6 weeks ago. But things look pretty grim now. I'm sure there will be a bottle (or 2) in hand that night! Kind of amazing what kind of characters many will vote for - regardless of where they have been/what they have said/and done.

Nic, your description of the Raquillet sounds very tempting. But I see only one listing for this wine in the US on Winesearcher. I happened to buy and drink a bottle of the 2005 vintage of this wine, and my note said there was no need to buy any more. So they have improved a lot in the last 14 years.

After purchasing a few cases of 2019 futures, I have resisted buying in 2020 or 2021. The primary reason is a combination of resources (now retired) and age (a decade+ older than Comte). My wine spending these days is more about what can be drunk currently or over the next several years.

Yes, I agree this is a JCNorthway kind of wine. I don't think you can go wrong with 2016 Brunello - from basic to top of the heap, they are top notch. I missed out on the Altesino from my sources, but managed to get a few others I'm looking forward to enjoying.

I was privileged to attend a GL vertical some years ago in the Chicago area. Amongst the wines tasted (that I can remember) were 82, 86, 89, 95 and 2000. On that day the 1986 was the crowd favorite with 1982 closely behind. My recollection is that all the wines were top notch on that day.
