My experience with the 2000s higher Cru are that they do need 5+ years more of cellaring. Aren't the 95s just coming around? Oh, ye of little faith!

Re: Two Right Bank 1998s
I just reviewed the 98s in my Cellar. Lots of Chateauneuf and still about 20 right bankers and some Pessac-Leognan- as the latter tends to mirror the right bank in vintage quality. Gotta start drinking more!
Re: 61s at 61
Loved what 61s I’ve had. But brings up the old saying-“There are no good vintages, just good bottles.” Where did you source them?

Had a 1998 le Petite Cheval recently and it was wonderful. Price on the bottle was $59. Taste has a strong resemblance to a Guigal LaLa. Amazing! This was worth it!

I just ran these numbers and my largest Bordeaux holding is...Pontet-Canet!!! I big surprise to me. The next two are not: 2-Angelus, 3-Pichon Baron.

Re: Jekyll and Hyde wine. Excellent or horrid.
I agree with 89 Beaucastel. I would add 1990 PLL. I once served it blind and literally half the tasters loved it, half hated it. I was in the latter group. It was the same wine, but I hated the overt green notes.

Re: The collective on aging curves
Years ago, Jancis Robinson published a book on typical aging curves. Admittedly, it was for the bigger named wines. But at the time, there was precious little info available like this. Also, one assumes that the aging curve is for perfectly stored wine. Even CT, IIRC, does not make that clear.

For 2018, they did change the Lafite label. They drew in a small hot air balloon with CL on it to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the Rothschilds owning the winery and CL is Roman numerals for 150, also CL stands for Chateau Lafite.

OrlandoBob. I do not have major skin in this game, but showing the last 5 years in Bordeaux of a couple of wines to "prove" a point is faulty. 2015-2020 have been very good to great in Bordeaux with global warming showing its presence. Do this for all the classed growths likely show an up ...

My favorite is Guigal. I could smell La Mouline for days. For a classic take, I haven't seen Gallet mentioned. Classic bacon fat in the nose.

My take on my wines from Friday and Saturday
First, I remind you of the “Arthur Johnson” rule (Arthur is a fellow Philly area Enophile) who says “you always like the wine your brought”. 1995 Figeac en Magnum. Surprise of the tasting for me. RMP initially rated it in the upper 80s. Gradually improved to 92 points. Garnet. Nose was typical Borde...

The trend has been to using a more white wine glass. Flutes limit nose, coupes limit seeing the bubbles. White wine glasses are a happy medium.

At the first Millennium tasting my wine group put on, there was a flight of Haut Brion-1982, 1989, 1961. The 61 was the greatest red wine I’ve ever had. The 89 wasn’t far behind! The 82 was left in the dust.
