^^I'd forgotten about the '92 Togni Cab. That's a pretty extraordinary wine. (But i still prefer the '91 Dominus.)

2001 Coutet
Had a 375 of the 2001 Coutet last night. What a great wine! With flavors of apricot, peach and a hint of pineapple, the wine had perfect acidity to balance its luscious sweetness, so that it sparkled on the palate. I would give it 93-95 points, and suspect that it easily has 15-20 years of beautiful...

Re: What's your favorite Cali cab?
The only wine for which I have a standing order is Montelena Estate Cab, which we think is quintessential CA Cab.
My favorite CA Cab of all time, however, might be the 1991 Dominus, which i think is extraordinary.

Re: When President Romney takes office....
I think the better choice for Romney is Portman. I think Romney will win FL, even without Rubio. But I don't see how Obama wins the election without Ohio, and I think Portman will come across as more seasoned than Rubio, a master of fiscal policy, and very appealing to moderate, undecided midwestern...

I will be in the Loire Valley for a few days this summer. Can anyone suggest any wineries that would be worth a visit? I happen to love the dessert wines from Baumard (Quarts de Chaume, Clos de Ste Catherine), but I haven't found any information about whether they are open to visitors. Any help or i...

I don't know about astrologers, but Obama might win, though certainly not in a landslide.
Barring the good fortune of taking Florida, which seems more than questionable, I predict (having nothing to do with astrology) that this election will be about Ohio.

I still have a bottle or two of the '93 LLC. Haven't had one in years, so i guess it's time.
I was planning on opening a bottle of '93 Haut Brion in the next few weeks. I have two bottles, but i've never had the wine. Does anyone else have any experience with the '93 HB?

I'm more than perplexed, since both Tourelles de LonguevIlle (the 2d label of Pichon Baron) and Pichon Lalande are Pauillacs. That's fraud, false advertising and/or just plain stupidity, whatever you want to call it. I'm with Stefan.

Re: Jim: Won a TRO in Fed Court; Now Need Help w/ Security Bond
Injunctive relief is not an adjudication on the merits, so it is possible that the defendant, having been temporarily enjoined at the case's inception, will ultimately win on the merits. If that happens, the defendant would have been prejudiced by having been enjoined, and the bond is intended to co...

I love the dessert wines from the Loire Valley, like Coteaux du Layon. Baumard offers a couple that are outstanding; wonderful when they're young and they usually become more honeyed and nuanced with age. With desserts or on their own (i.e., in lieu of dessert), these wines can be so great that it m...

Has anyone had the '02 Les Forts de Latour?
I bought a bunch of it in halves on release. I tried a bottle years ago and decided it needed time, so I've left it alone.
Now I'm thinking about opening another, and I'm just curious as to whether anyone has had recent experience with it.

I have several bottles of the '98 La Pointe and almost a case of the '94 Pichon Lalande, which I've been hoping would come around (actually, I was afraid I had missed the La Pointe's peak). Now I know that it's time to give them a go.

Re: NWR: Copyrighting a book
By the way, even though failing to do so no longer sends a work into the public domain, it is always best to put a copyright notice ("Copyright [or the encircled "c"] + author's name + year of creation) on the cover of the manuscript.

Well, it's not called a common law copyright anymore (it's protected under federal law), but that's the gist of it. As soon as something is put in a fixed form (in this case, when it's recorded on paper), a copyright exists in it. A federal registration is a requirement for being able to sue for inf...

Last weekend a bunch of us had a 1996 horizontal tasting which included 9 Bordeaux and 3 California reds. I have had the '85 Cos many times, but regrettably not recently. My recollection is that it is a lovely, low acid and rather forward wine; pretty rather than muscular (the latter adjective would suit the '86, with the two vintages being as different as two good vintages can be). It might be a bit pa...

Sunday night and you're in a pinch coming up with a red for bouillabaisse - I would go with either Chianti or Pinot Noir, depending on both your taste and the amount of tomato in the dish. For me, when people use a lot of tomato (like the Italian version, cioppino) I would go with Chianti. If it's r...
