Re: 04 Kay Bros Amery Vinyards Hillside Shiraz has been uncorked

Random thought while I try to gather up courage to take a second sip... So, do you think that Blagojevich fellow is guilty? He's going to be impeached because he didn't defend himself, but, you know, I'm still waiting to hear that one piece of tape, that one big piece of evidence, that hits me over ...

04 Kay Bros Amery Vinyards Hillside Shiraz has been uncorked

What the heck is this stuff? Kind of a muddy color. I'll let this sit a bit while we start with some cheese.

Re: My first TN, on the new BWE

Boy 12.5% alcohol from 2003 is quite an accomplishment. Cantemerle seems to get consistently high grades here on BWE, I've got to try these wines more often. I've got three or four bottles of the '05 in my cellar but I haven't tried it yet.

I have had this wine four or five times and there's just not much there that is very compelling in my book. The Cap de Faugeres is much better.

Yeah, it's quite interesting. I'll always have a place in my heart for the MSN site, I guess, it was kind of like when the Apollo 13 astronauts lived in the lunar module for four days to preserve the command module. It was cold and barren and bare bones, but it enabled them to survive to better days...

No probs David, its lovely wine, at such a low price I would think restaurants would be looking for a wine like this. Stefan, Werner commented a while back that burgundy village wines from great vintages can last forever and I believe him. I recall a few years ago I had a batch of Burgundies from 19...

Yeah I mean we were fighting with one hand tied behind our backs with all the log in issues, and the freezing up, and the spam, etc. The shutting down of MSN Groupswas a definite blessing in disguise. I mean, that was ridiculous over there.

You know, Jon, I was thinking about that this evening. I'm sure JScott and the others who were on the old Wine Spectator site would agree. The parallels with what happened nine years ago, when we left a dysfunctional WS site, are very striking.

Nice body, balance, ripeness, and the 14% alcohol didn't seem to interfere. Nothing thin or short about it. Definitely worthy of the high RMP rating, I think he...

Thanks for the report, finner. It just goes to show that, as great as the 2000 vintage was, in the end the limitations of terroir take over. I've had similar experiences with a couple other 2000 St. Emilions, Ferrand Lartigue and Corbin. You get the impression that these wines were stretched as far ...

Yes, Scott, Jackdaw actually posted a tasting note on the '96 Pontet-Canet in the first 48 hours of the existence of BWE in February 2000.
It is fitting that we met with Alfred Tesseron a couple years ago, it is a classic BWE wine from the appellation of Pauillac.

I've had some lovely Rhones over the years.
This '07 Domaine "La Garrigue", for example, is quite nice.
What I sometimes have trouble getting my arms around, including with this 14% effort, are the alcohol levels.

I bought a few bottles of this from PJs. Sipping on it before dinner, it seems to have nice body and ripeness, a nice spicy character, lovely deep purple color. Not a bad little wine for twelve bucks. Let's see how it performs during dinner....
