Have any other '08s come out? It would be very interesting if they have not (waiting to see if Angelus actually sells).

Re: The 2005 Burgs....

Nic and I concluded that these wines just are not of a nature that they should be compared with anything else. These are wines that you uncork with a dinner and watch unfold over the course of several hours with the meal. That's pretty much how I feel about Burgundy. I dearly love the wines, but al...

Re: TNs 07 Strub Niersteiner Paterberg Spatlese, 05 Vouvray

Glad you like the Paterberg. Indeed the alcohol level of the finished wine is not part of the pradikat system (except for legal minimums - sometimes an issue for TBA). Strub has eliminated sussreserve since 2005, and so the alcohol & sweetness are all entirely from what was harvested (of course ...

I just opened my first 2001 (not a rich, tannic vintage) and it was glorious with 2 hours of air (no decant, just poured an ounce to make sure it wasn't corked then left it alone). The '99 (a strong but not as tannic vintage) is just starting to get good. My plan, and I have the 2005 in the cellar, ...

If you really think the Jadot generic Pinot is going to be a paradigm shifting experience then you deserve what you get.

Again - adot does a great job with their Domaine wines, and some of their negotiant bottlings are excellent, but the mass market stuff is the same old swill.

TN: Budget 2000 Bordeaux - some good & some really bad

Our tasting group met last night with 11 wines served blind. The theme was eventually revealed as "Recession Reds", consisting of mostly inexpensive 2000 Bordeaux bottlings with one 2005 thrown in. Comments are kept short - many of these wines do not even deserve a eulogy. 2005 Chateau Che...

Don't get we wrong, I love Jadot, but their big production negotiant village wines are not their strong suit.

You know what was a good little year for German wines, at least to a novice like me, who bought a bunch based on PD's recommendations, and really enjoyed them, was 2002. That's one of the last classically styled vintages (along with 2001 and 2004). Haven't seen its like since, though I am hearing 2...

Re: Has Pappadoc (or anybody) tried the 2007 Strub Niersteiner

Sorry I got to this so late...if you want "driving acidity" (not quite sure what that means - but I presume you mean that you want a more "electric" experience) then the '07 Paterberg may not really be your wine. The Bruckchen Kabinett is brighter & more of a summer quaffer. ...
