The last bottle of 1990 Cos that I opened had a wonderful aroma and tasted great when I decanted it at 4 pm but was fading at 8 pm when we were drinking it at dinner.

Re: Seeking nominations for the 2011 BWE Wine of the Year....

My impression of the 1994 Caymus Special Selection is very similar to that of DavidG. After tasting it at age 10, I gave away my last bottle to a charity auction. But back to the issue of wine of the year. My vote (and I realise this isn't a democracy) is for 1996 Pichon Lalande. It was my wine of t...

Yes, the room we had for the Saturday night main event dinner at Charlie Palmer was very large with plenty of room for mingling. I agree with Jim - it could probably accomodate 50 people. I'm assuming we will be getting that space again.

Both the 1978 and 1979 Pichon Lalande are holding on but I plan to finish mine in the next year or two - I would prefer to not wait too long. A bottle of the 1978 opened in Minneapolis this past June was very much alive and singing a pretty song.

Re: BWE DC Blind Tasting: '95 vs '96 Medocs

With respect to wine glasse, I think that two stems per person is not going to be enough. We will probably need at least four per person. I am local so I can bring all that Marjorie and me will need plus a few extra. The 20 to 24 ounce wine glasses take up an awful lot of table space and seem to enc...

My use of "spousal unit" comes from very funny Coneheads skits on Saturday Night Live in the late 70s. Just shows how old I am. Dan Akroyd (Beldar Conehead) describes his significant other, Jane Curtin (Prymaat Conehead), as "spousal unit" http://snltranscripts.jt.org/77/77nconeh...

2004 is supposed to be a great year for Barolo. I haven't tried all that many but recently really enjoyed bottles of 2004 Marcarini Barolo Brunate and 2004 Cavallotto Barolo Bricco Boschis. Though not exactly open, they both tasted very good with pasta, sausage and tomato sauce.

The 1988 Lafite is a very nice wine but if you can get serious money for it that might be the way to go . A lot of options with $1500 or $2000 to play with. I have very little Lafite - never one of my favorite producers.
