Re: 2020 Bordeaux

I too think ABV is a worthwhile data point that no one really tracks in a meaningful way. The benefit would clearly come once you’ve entered this yearly ABV value for each property you review into a database table while also backfilling prior years, as then your end user would be able to sort and ar...

While there is wealth of information and tasting notes on your site Jeff, I also agree with Ian in showing the AbV would be a welcomed additional data point.

While my typical Bdx purchases usually come in original wood cases, not this Golodetz value pick ;) $152/cs and $144 on 2 wholesale through Touton for this vintage which goes to show you how sharp that Rye Brook price is. Will give it this a trial run soon and we shall see how this value fares for m...

Mixed case purchase of 6 x 2020 Philippe Jouan Chambolle Musigny and 6 x 2020 Philippe Jouas Gevrey Chambertin Aux Echezeaux @ $84.99/per at Bottle King in Ramsey, NJ.
Still plenty left for those interested and local.

I see it more as having been a hot vintage that was handled better than in previous warm years. And is that your experience across the board or just with this wine?

Costco pricing is essentially original futures pricing so I would strongly suggest keeping that in mind when comparing pricing, and CV, buy, buy, buy.

Participated in an 80’s Lynch Bages blind tasting with the 82, 83, 85, 86, 88 and 89 about 10 or so years ago in Maryland at a friends uncles and the 82, 85 and 88 were my favorites on the day and in that order as they were all so wonderfully expressive. And Joel, is Cantenac Brown ever more than $100? I generally find this Cantenac property a little too modern leaning for my palate and instead routinely buy D’Issan and Giscours for my future Margaux enjoyment at similar price points.

Re: So what have you bought lately?

I realize but I also don’t think we should take average wine searcher listed retail prices for allocated items as gospel when there simply is not that much to go around (ie demand far exceeds supply). $189 is a great price for the best in class village Chambolle from Mugnier and it is also in line w...

Lol. Sure, go ahead and blame me. It's amazing that a 1er cru Monopole is the cheapest wine in Mugniers's lineup. About a quarter of the price of his Chambolle village. Enjoy JC Agree and that’s just the way it goes nowadays but they did have an empty spot price tag of $189 for the Chambolle in the...

Or you can go with the poster child of the modernist movement in Gerard Perse’s Chateau Pavie. My guess is the vintage conditions saved it from being as flagrant as some of the surrounding vintages.

I do also like Jim’s SHL suggestion.

Re: Bordeaux 2019 In Bottle Tasting at FarrVintners

Your Barton experience echoes mine here in NYC where Lilian was pouring in person. The Leoville Barton was pure with a long finish and I can def see what drew Patrick in but I had it in that same 93-95 point bucket as Beychevelle and Gruaud Larose (which I ended up pulling the trigger on a 6pack of).
