Re: TN: Pilgrimage to S. Florida- '82 Bordeaux with Stuart

Sounds like a wonderful time. Very sorry I was not able to participate. Those 82s sure are great. Haut Brion didn't get big scores early on but I have loved it every time I've had it.

Re: '86 Mouton and Margaux

For the Margaux, I paid $50 a bottle on futures. I didn't buy the Mouton on futures but I think it was about the same price. I think the Mouton is a better wine than the Margaux. Talbot and Rausan Segla were both great in 1986 - liked both of them more than Margaux.

Sorry, no recent experience with de Chambrun - I don't think I have seen it in any of my local stores in recent years. I did enjoy many bottles of the 1998 (very good stuff).

Re: The three greatest Bordeaux you have ever tasted

A very fine (like 99.7 points) bottle of 1996 Lafite was enjoyed last July at Jim's place in Maine with a few DC area BWEers. Quite a comparison with the also great (99.8) 1989 Lynch Bages. A few shout outs to some of the greats I left off my only three greatest Bordeaux: besides the two, above have...

Re: 2012 Haut Bergey… A very solid effort.

I am a fan of these moderately priced 2012 Bordeaux. Pleasant to drink young and will add character with mid-term aging. I'm a fan of Barde-Haut and La Fleur de Bouard in 2012 as well. Also pleased by 2012 red and white Burgundy, 2012 German Riesling and 2012 Southern Rhone. I guess I just like 2012...

I will go with:
1959 Latour
1966 Palmer
1982 Pichon Lalande
My choices are somewhat arbitrary - these are what first came to mind. Probably another dozen very close.

Re: TN: 98 Faugeres [St Emilion]

I think I drank my last bottle of 1998 Faugeres about 5 years ago. Very pleasant easy drinking Bordeaux. Went through a dozen 375s. I think I paid $8 or $9 a bottle for it. Nice to have around to have whenever and not in the mood to splurge or drink very much. Just bought a bunch of 375s of La Fleur...

I have been a fan of the 2000 La Fleur de Bouard for some time. A nice easy drinking French merlot. Probably buy some of the 2012 based on Jim's review ...

Two bottles of 2013 Ridge Geyserville

The 1986 Gruaud Larose and Cos d'Estournel were both very impressive but were a bit on the young side. More to my taste were the 1989 Cantermerle, 1983 Cos d'Estournel and 1983 Gruaud Larose - all in a good place for current drinking. The 1982 Cantermerle was also excellent. Enjoyed a bottle of 1999 Chateau Margaux in a small group last night in memory of Paul Pontellier. He led Chateau Margaux to amazing heights. The thing I like about Margaux is how fine the wines are in lesser vintages. This 1999 was quite wonderful with a beguiling aroma and a slightly exotic flavor...
