Re: What are we drinking in lockdown?

1986 Joël Taluau Saint-Nicolas-de-Bourgueil Vieilles Vignes Gosh, my palate sure has changed through the years. I probably wouldn’t have liked this even 5 years ago, but tonight with a steak, I am digging this (the low price doesn’t hurt). Super green, capsicum-filled bouquet redolent with green bel...

Re: Up to now, which is your favorite?

I It’s sad that some of my fave estates have flipped to the dark side and it show prominently in 2016, so I am buying even more selectively. So for me, 2014, 2016. The 2015 vintage is not on my map. This for me too. I think the raw materials are probably better in 2016, but so many chateau that I u...

2001 Ridge Lytton Springs ... Just terrific. In a great, great spot right now, open and giving, but it’s still vigorous and only just showing a secondary profile. Sweet without any sweetness, built now more around its minty freshness than its brambly fruit. Delicious scents of blackberries, lavende...

Re: What are we drinking in lockdown?

Had a classic, balanced, lovely bottle of the 2001 Monsanto Il Poggio Riserva last night. It was just so comfortable being what it is, not straining nor caring about trends or points. Perhaps not quite at peak, just a nice bottle of high acid wine to go with Italian cuisine.

Yes, it's a happy map for Biden, based entirely on the polling averages today and with swing states shown based exclusively on those within the margin of error as of today (the polling averages for TX and OH are currently both +0.9 for Trump). Trump's convention bounce, which wasn't that big, appear...

Bunch of good (or better) polls for Biden today, especially the Marist poll in Pennsylvania at Biden +9 amongst Likely Voters (but the WI poll from Marquette at +4 is a concern):

I got the 08 Laurent Perrier for $59, which seems very competitive per WineSearcherPro. There is a place in buffalo which has it for $52 (WineTransit.com) or $58.75 at the Saratoga Wine Exchange, These are very good prices for a terrific vintage bubbly from a great year.

PA is ground zero, I agree with you. Because is Biden more likely to win FL than PA? NC? GA? Hell no, and as you say, it’s game over if he loses PA and these states.* *technically, not true - with WI, MI, AZ, and NE-2 (which the few polls we have show Biden with a small lead in) get Biden to exactly...

You could be right, Jim. This election is far from over. I think Biden’s biggest weakness so far is amongst H...

Re: President Trump

It's tightening, but Biden is still ahead and the race has settled in. Again, I think this really all makes the debates key. If Biden holds his own there, and there aren't any 'surprises' with real legs (not doctored videos, fake subpoenas from Bogus Barr, etc.), I think it Biden's election to lose....

First things first: I am very nervous too. BUT we all expected the race to tighten, and it has. Thanks for the feedback. ITNOS, I opened the 07 Taittinger Comtes and the 08 Laurent Perrier Brut today to celebrate Labor Day. Both are wonderful champagnes... but I actually prefer the Laurent Perrier. It could be a vintage signature, but the LP is so crisp and chalky and makes the Comtes almost s...

1988 La Gurgue So good. Beautiful old-school bouquet of leather, cranberries, cedar. Classic. Beautiful blanc, tertiary, with white ginger, baked lemon rind, and some nutty sherried notes. Still fresh and balanced despite the age and richness, very nice. This is unmistakably California but speaks with a french accent. Drink now.

My only problem with buying the likes of the 2014 Montrose is the price. Cheapest in the USA is $112. That's a lot for a wine that will need 25+ years of TLC before acting nice.
