Re: So which 2014 Bdx would you recommend?

The 14 Sociando was so cheap for ages (<$30 at places I often buy from) and I never pulled the trigger. Same on the Lanessan. But I did get a 6 pack of Haut Bailly 2014 at a keen price I haven’t had many 14s, but the ones I’ve tried have seemed more charming than the 96s at the same age, maybe remin...

+1 on the Calon. I bought the Leoville Barton (not tried it but everyone loved it and it was keenly priced at $60), and Pichon Lalande.

Very encouraging, Jacques. I got scared off the 2018 white burgs being too ripe/flabby, but I haven’t tasted any yet as the few I bought won’t get to here until shipping season arrives.

Foillard Morgon Cote du Py 2016. A bit too fruity on day one, drinking the 2nd half today and I like it a lot more. Still shows a bit of a candied cherry note (almost giving it a rose quality), but it’s more earthy and balanced now. Delicious.

I first really heard about/noticed Togni on BWE, from the notes from one of those Kittle House nights many moons ago where Jacques, Ian and others had the likes of Togni, Dunn HW, Montelena, Ridge Monte Bello, etc.

Re: Ducru Beaucaillou 1989

It’s crazy to think one of Bordeaux’s most historic chateau lost essentially a whole decade of wine.

That said, the bottle I had of the 82 Ducru in Ft. Lauderdale a few years ago was clean and very good, although probably just beginning a slow decline.

Re: What are we drinking in lockdown?

Nice haul, Marcus. My go-to Togni for a good stretch was the wonderful 1993, which actually showed better than the 92 for me (caveat: I've only had the 92 the one time). I used to be able to pick up the '93 on Winebid for $55 like 8 or 9 years ago, and I reloaded a few times. I managed to get a half...

Thread drift, but is 2005 red burgundy really the second coming?

I know red burgundy can get too mean, lean and green, but can it swing the other way too? Is it now getting hot enough there that they have overly big, boozy and broad vintages? Or is it still the house style which is paramount?

Not a VCC man, but color me deeply skeptical. Unless VCC is truly an outlier, these sorts of ‘recency‘ rating-spikes in my experience are either grade inflation or spoofilation (or both).
