Ian:
I opened two 90 Yquem's in Jan+Feb 2019 and both were disappointing compared to what I remember some +10 years ago. These were flat and less sweet than I recall. Seems statistically unlikely but could they have both been slightly corked?

Re: What are we drinking in lockdown?

HDH says their insurance will cover my loss. But I would have rather received those wines (uncooked) than a refund. I'm not sure when I should ask for the refund. Now? Or wait until they are delivered and try one or two and see how they are? I just can't imagine anything but a Port surviving in the ...

Wonderful to see everyone on Zoom! 1982 Lynch - Dark ruby with tints of medium brown throughout, and very fine sediment. Fresh nose of pencil lead and cherry. Clean, fresh, layered, raspberry, cherry, smoke, pencil lead, earth, integrated flavors, soft tannins, long finish, but a bit thin throughout...

Stefan: So are you saying my case of Cal Cab that went into FedEx from HDH 2 weeks ago will be OK when finally delivered? Seems because I used a business address, and the Bay Area shut down all but essential businesses 2 weeks ago, that FedEx decided they can't deliver those and has just left everyt...

I haven't seen how this is supposed to run, nor have I done a Zoom yet, but imagine something like this moderation might be an approach: 1 - Intro by BD 2 - 20 secs each person to say: who they are where they are what wine they have opened any food they are eating 3 - then cycle through each person ...

Re: IMPORTANT: ZOOM MEETING: SAT. APRIL 4, 4pm U.S. EASTERN TIME

Nalan and I plan to join the BWE Zoom tasting on 4 April. The C19 count reported on the local news the morning of 3 April for the San Jose area was around 1000, and 20 in Napa. So we are staying in Napa. We have a baguette, prosciutto, duck dried sausage, various cheeses. I think something with age ...

Re: ***The official France 2020 thread: Week of March 23, 2020

I meant that anyone that wants to come will be considered based on their score. So if you are now number 25 on the list, and we do need to go to a points system to rank priority, the person listed as number 25 today could end up as number 7 and number 7 could end up being cut out of the trip. Only i...

Re: Payments for BWE France 2020

Regardless of whether it's Claudius or anyone else, as I noted in the planning thread, no one's position is guaranteed until these 2 steps are completed: 1 - Take stock of how many people actually want to go, our limit of 18 (maybe 20), based on responses on the BWE site and payments of the deposits...

Re: ***The official France 2020 thread: Week of March 23, 2020

I think we should cap it at 20. We can keep adding to the list (and if anyone in the top 20 drop out the list moves up) but there should be some priority to the 20. Perhaps: Whomever is already in the 20? or Anyone that went to 2015? The people that have been to the most annuals? In any case, the de...

Had a 70 Fonseca last weekend. Beautiful in all respects other than a bit too much alcohol and too tannic. More fruit than nuts with nice complexity and decent finish. Unfortunately my index lately for Port is a 47 (I think Graham, I'll need to double check) that we opened about 3 or 4 years ago for...
