Fancy wine cellars at our various homes with more expensive wines, 1st Growths, cult Napa and Italy. More at drinking peak. Dinner parties (4 to 10 people) with family and friends. Private chef. Donations, non-profit work, US and international travel with our own jet(s). Travel with family and frien...

I have 4 people from NYC that are saying they are interested to join us on Sat. One of the couples joined us in NYC ages ago and are wine people. Do we have room?

When and where do we send checks? Thanks,

Did we decide on the more expensive option or cap at 20 people?
I may have a few outsiders interested to join on Fri.

And yes, be warned, red Burg near me may end up in the flower pot.

I doubt any of my DC friends will do $250.

I guess they will be on the wait list since we are capped at 20?

I am trying to find out from my DC hosts if they want to join us on Friday or if they had another plan that I need to join them on. Nalan does not arrive in DC until Sat morning. Hoping I can join the Friday event, I will, of course, be at the Rhone table. Laughing at the people wasting time, energy...

Re: UCG San Francisco - 25 Jan 2018

Yes, it seemed pretty much all pop and pour. I think I saw maybe 3 decanters. I think the person pouring the Pichon Lalande was next to PL and not from PL, so maybe they didn't care much and didn't bother to check. I found a thread of unpleasant non-natural taste and little fruit. Merrick did not ge...

UCG San Francisco - 25 Jan 2018

Thursday, 25 January I’ve been to large wine tasting events, some much larger than UCG, but never UCG. So I was excited to attend, especially with all the 2015 buzz. I attended with my friend Merrick Dowson from Adventures in Wine. He's been in the wine business for something like 40 years and at th...

I've had a few 57 Haut Brion and 57 Montrose as that was my parents wedding year. I bought them in some mixed lots about 20 years ago in some London, Paris or Amsterdam auction. They always got a kick out me bringing them to major wedding anniversaries, like 50 and 60. Last summer I brought my last ...

Re: ***DC '18: March 22-25***

Nalan and I can commit to come to DC 22-25 March.

I can't imagine we would cancel it as we always get about 30 attendees, no?

Or is the problem finding someone to organize it locally? If that's the case, we can do it in another city, no?

Here's the list of 20 wines that I tasted last night and some quick scores IMHO. Although I scored the two Amarones highly, these were not wines for food as they were too concentrated. Lisa (the brains and beauty behind SF-Ed) was able to negotiate a low limitless bottles corkage fee at Bob's Steak at the Omni Hotel in SF last year. Not sure who she did that with but we were a local BWE group (plus Jonathan P from Japan) about 10 people that time.

Happy birthday Bill!
Glad to hear you had such a yummy birthday dinner with a perfectly stored LL.

I still recall the 81 Haut Brion from that vertical we had in Dallas a few years ago. I was shocked how good an 81 could be since it's not one of those highly rated and talked about vintages.

Arv's notes are consistent with my memory, which I'd guess is a bit faulty based on how I felt the next day. I guess that next day effect shouldn't be a surprise since at the end of the dinner there were only two bottles left with only about 20% in each, so 11 bottles for 8 people. My WOTN was the 8...
