Re: WELCOME TO THE NEW BWE!

A big hello to everyone! Great to see all the names from the past. Glad to have you on board.

This site should be much easier to use than the old MSN site.

Looks great! Much better this way.

If we ever get too busy, we can always add a separate forum, say for offlines, etc. But a single forum is just fine for our size.

Re: TN: 2002 Siduri Rosella's Vyd Pinot Noir

Scott, I thnk you've nailed the typical characteristics of Cali Pinot vs. Burg - of course there are always exceptions. Most of my red wine drinking is Bdx, Rhones, and Cabs. Occasionally a Pinot is nice, but I've never really been infected by the Burg Bug, even though some of the best wines I've ev...

Ignore me if I'm not making sense here - you've probably forgotten more about web stuff than I will ever know.

Wont the full posts disappear with MSN communities?
I kind of like the abbreviated results - makes it easly to search through a long list without slogging through a bunch of posts.

Re: BWE DC '09 Dinner at Charlie Palmer Steak

Somewhere we need to have a bunch of '05 Burgs - especially since you named them collectively BWE WOTY. Not sure we want to "pollute" our Saturday dinner with Burgs  - but maybe that would be a good theme for Friday. I don't own any, but apparently there are a bunch of reasonably pr...

A few - Siduri, Loring, & a few others here and there - not too expensive or exclusive. They are not at all like Burgs IMO. I've also liked Dehlinger and Kistler - but they're harder to obtain and more costly.

Re: Rearranging site

I e-mailed Eric Levine about this - he said CellarTracker can't do autoposting to phpBBs. Some kind of security issues that are too complex to work around - he's tried and failed with Robin Garr's WLDG which runs the same software. So we are limited to cut/paste. So I would just delete the CellarTra...

Maybe gilding the lily at this stage, but another question...

Is there a BB option to present the site formatted for phone/PDA screens? Some BBs do this better than others. I'm aceeaing the site with my phone now and it's almost unreadable.

Re: Final questions, management protocol, ownership/control Q's

All of the above sounds good.

I'm in agreement about using the delete button rarely. I doubt I would ever use it without consulting with you, Jim, or one of the other managers first.

I don't think we need avatars. They seem to be the "thing to do" at most BBs. I kind of like it when I recognize the poster immediately from the avatar and make an association - it adds a bit more personality. But then multiple people end up choosing the same avatar, or some keep changing ...

Eric's reply to my query about auto-posting from CellarTracker: I have found that phpBB seems to defy any attempts at external posting. A larger font on the front page would be OK, but I agree that simple and uncluttered is best. 2002 Siduri Rosella's Vyd Pinot Noir: Medium-dark red. Ripe, bright strawberry and cherry on the nose with a bit of alcoholic heat. Medium body, ripe fruit on palate, good balance but alcohol pokes through a bit. Medium finish smooths out some, very good, drink up.

Number of posts per page

It looks like the software starts a new page after 10 posts. Can that be increased to 30-40 posts per page? Less clicking from page to page for multi-post threads that way. And I don't think it will slow down the page loads significantly.

WLDG uses similar software and has a security issue with auto-posts from CT, but that may be something that WLDS set up rather than something inherent in the BB software.

I like the "Last edited" notation. It doesn't kick in right away, so it allows you to add content or correct typos or errors or tone down a rant if you hit "send" too soon. But it also notifies the group that you changed something if you do so later down the road after a, perhaps...
