Great note Nic. I have a few of the 2014 DdC resting in the cellar. I'll give them a few more years before I test them. Sadly, the meat accompaniment will not be moose.

Thanksgiving Wines

Being thankful that I am drinking wine this Thanksgiving, I opened two bottles last night. I decided to retest the Potel tree of wines after my slight confusion over my last Potel. This time I opened the 2005 Charmes-Chambertin. No official notes from last night but this is my impression. A lovely w...

This I do not understand, Bill. Bill, circa 1933 DRC La Tache bought Liger-Belair La Tache. This is from La Tache wiki but I've confirmed this information from other sources. It's explains the politics. Up until 1932, the neighbouring vineyard of Les Gaudichots could be sold either under its own na...

Just to give a little historical background on the rumor of Potel and La Tache. A portion of the Les Gaudichots (LG) vineyard was sold to La Tache and incorporated into La Tache wines. Since 1932 those LG vineyards owned by La Tache could be sold as either La Tache or LG. My understanding is Forey o...

Joel, while I drink Bordeaux and collect them, I also have a few burgs. Over my life I have consumed some Grand Cru. Nothing prepared me for this flavor profile. I've read many of the burgheads talk about tasting the terrior and minerality therefrom but I never seen nothing like "you". The...

2001 Nicolas Potel Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Gaudichots

So there is rumor that this is declassified La Tache. Not being a frequent visitor to the rarified world of Burgundy I'm not in a position to pontificate. On the nose is a subdued but lovely dark fruit, leather and minerals. A very Burgundian nose. Nicely balanced, a good mix of fruit, acid and stil...

I discovered during a visit a few years ago that they made wine on Vancouver Island. I also discovered after visiting a few wineries that it was not that palatable. Maybe with time they will fine the right grapes and processes.

Jim the 2016 Lafon Rochet is also a very pretty wine and about $10.00 cheaper than the Malartic. Its body is leaner that the Malartic but still has the stuffing to please. Again, 14, 15 and 16 will be memorable.

A little off topic but had the 2016 Malartic the other day. Your description still holds for this vintage also. Very smooth, tannins offset by ripe fruit. Medium plus body but not flabby at all. Average acidity making for a well balanced wine. This modern style seems to allow both pleasant drinking ...

Your hypothetical said one bottle of Margaux not two. Next, why can't 16 surpass the 86 which was good but hardly transcendent year. So if you buy the Margaux, you have two bottles on very good wine, which only adds to your cellar of overflowing "very good wines." Obviously, this is all JF...

Mouton.

My logic:
Margaux excellent wine from a very good year. You have tons of this type of wine in your cellar.
19 Tour St. Do you really need another case of quaffers?
Mouton. Great wine from a transcendent year. Even Neal gave it 100 pts.
