Re: CnDP tasting month: Vieux Telegraph La Crau 1998

Comte, I think that whether one likes Langoa 04 three times as much as a VT 98 depends very much on one's personal taste preferences. Luckily these preferences vary considerably from one person to another. I agree that most wines from CdP are not easy-going, delicate wines. However, this is one of t...

Re: TN: 2003 Pontet-Canet - closed?

Harry, I had this wine from a regular bottle around 2 months ago. I decanted the wine around 3 hours before we started to consume it and maybe this did the trick. The wine was quite good, especially in the nose. The finish was more balanced and enjoyable than I expected, but I doubt a bit whether it...

Re: Chateau Carbonnieux Blanc

Carbonnieux Blanc is one of my favourite white wines in the medium-high price range. I think it offers a good QPR in most vintages. 2000 was quite good, 2001 and 2002 excellent, 2003 decent, 2004 good and 2005 and 2006 excellent again. I like to serve this wine to guests as few people are familiar w...

Re: Just returned from Bordeaux

Hendrikus, Bordeaux is a indeed great place to visit for wine. When I first got there in 2003 I thought that it would be difficult to visit some chateaux given the somewhat "arrogant/distant" attitude that people sometimes link to Bordeaux chateaux. Nothing was further from the truth: it w...

Re: Harry, help needed

Jay, I would not hesitate to open most 2001 CdP's! They are not like wines from Bordeaux which can be arkward after 3-8 years when all the fruit seems to be covered under a hefty level of oak. I had the 2001's from Marcoux, Pegau and Charvin in the last week and they were all great. The Pegau needs ...

Re: TN: 2002 Château Lagrange St. Julien (France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Julien)

I hope that the 2002 lagrange has the fruit to outlive to large amount of oak used by Lagrange. I consumed three bottles when they were still very young and at that stage there was still just enough fruit to counterbalance the oak. I still have nine bottles left and will leave them in the cellar for...

Re: Visit Chateauneuf and TN's 2007-2008 Clos Saint Jean

Harry, I see that you're still hard at work! What I do not understand is that one of today's top domaines from CdP produces cuvées specially and exclusively for the US market. You see many lesser wine growers making special wines on request of importers, but you never see the best wine growers do su...
