Ramon_NYC wrote:Lot's of '89 being mentioned so far.

The NYC '89 tasting has shown how great a vintage is when all the wines we had, imho, were good-to-terrific.

My vote for 2009 BWE Wine of the Year = "The 1989 Vintage"
I agree with Ramon - 1989 Vintage Bordeaux

Re: Cause of premox?

I've had plenty of premoxed white Burgundies (like over 50% of my 1996s). Not buying much white Burgundy anymore. I've also had some premoxed Loire Chenin Blancs and even a few Alsatian Rieslings - all of which had that tell-tale blue-slate grey color on the wine end of corks. No premox problems on ...

Re: Decanting advice, 1970 Ducru?

I have always liked 1970 Ducru Beaucaillou. If your bottle is in good shape it should be be a very nice wine. If it were my bottle, I would probably do as stefan suggests. I would not decant in advance (big risk of losing its potentially wonderful aroma). If you choose to decant for sediment, do so ...

One more, Thanks Ian!

It was a great space for the event and the food was outstanding. Everything worked out fine. Amazing that none of the bottles were corked, cooked or off. I believe we left a 35% tip.

For next time maybe we could combine the best of 1983, 1985 and 1988.

It is a bit confusing and I'm not aware of a way to "look it up" Stars (***) and Gold Capsule (Goldkapsel) can mean whatever the producer wants them to mean. You need to know the system for each producer. From the top producers the stars and capsules are reliable indicators that the wines ...
