2015 Chateau Gloria. Wow this is a winner. Nose. Closed when first opened. Herbal/leaves. Forest floor. Licorice. Gentle perfume. Expanding nicely. Kiss of leather. Structure: wonderfully fresh acid, tannic but round and inviting. No sharp edges here, no aggression. Harmonious. Well balanced. Body: ...

I have to agree Jim. There seems to be a great deal of confusion regarding the BYOB laws in Colorado. I've read that the Colorado law forbids BYOB. I have yet to find the statute. Obviously, this is an issue that must be resolved before we make out choice. My impression is you can't bring bottles in...

On October 27 at 15 Sea Court Sacramento Ca. I'm having a wine dinner. Arv, Peter, Glenn, myself and Arv's and my wine friend Gene will be present. The time is really any time. The "official" time is 5:00pm but I am sure Glenn will already be here so whenever. The theme is Bordeaux, Cali C...

I thought I give this a try as it is relatively inexpensive (around $20.00) and it's from the 2015 so-called super vintage. My impression is, I like it. It's a medium ++ body, round tannins and acidity of the lower side of the scale. Nose of forest floor, subdue spice, and blackberry puree. On the p...

Despite my firm resolve, in a strictly impulse buy at the new Costco in Elk Grove:
2. 2015 Brane Contenac
1. 2015 Gloria
1. 2015 Marquis de Terme

I never had the Marquis so, I thought I give it a try. I'm hopeless.

Nice haul Chris.

The 2012 Rauzan is exquisite. A beautiful wine and the price won't keep you awake. Capbern tip-top value wine brought to you by the makers of Calon-Segur. Who can argue with Ducru, Calon or Leoville.

I don't wish to be the cause of topic drift but you did mention "tight budget". I've tasted a few 2015s and see that it is superior to 2014s and 2016s may be better than both. Still I've found for the budget minded, there are many fine bottles in 2014 and the price is 25-40% lower. Also, t...

Funny Alex because, I'm the last person to ask about Cali Cabs. I have about 10 Cabs in the cellar. I did go to a Cali Cab tasting (Caymus, Barnett Valley, Heitz etc.) a few months ago where the prices ranged from $65 to $80 a bottle. The Ferrière was a better value, and maybe a better wine. Very true about the price. They are big into discounting strategies. Like 10% for 6 bottles of winery direct and then combine that with their 15% off sales. Sometimes the price is very good if you are willing to play their discounting game.

My Bordeaux logic is based on the premise that statistically I'm closer to checking out than many of you. The longer the life of a Bordeaux the more expensive and longer it must be cellared to hit the sweet years. So those vintages structured like 1986, 1996, 2005, 2010 are not for me. I love them b...

Arv, didn't we have a 2012 Cantenac Brown at Bandera's two years ago. I've had it and it was fairly price back then.
