Re: Maya's Clone

Thanks David. We have a case of the Cab Sauv in Florida as well but never tried it. We bought out a gourmet shops wine cellar that was going out of business last winter. Some great labels at well under cost. We thought we'd dive in to the heavy guns this time and save the lesser wines for my return ...

Re: 2005 Vieux Telegraphe Blanc

You being controversial Tom? Has something changed in old age?

Don't know how these Rhone wines age as this is the first one that I've had that I've actually enjoyed. Wouldn't rush out to hunt it down but still it was a very nice drink.

Re: Maya's Clone

Maybe with time and I mean a lot of time this may turn into something beautiful. Right now this Maya 2000 is showing nothing but Californian hormones!

A Few Good and not So Good

Calera Ryan 2004- This certainly is a Californian Pinot that I've come to love in the last two years. Beautiful aromatics blow out of the glass with strawberries, rasperberries and spice. Beautiful depth and complexity. Never tire of the Calera wines. Open for business and lots of legs for 5-10 years...

2005 Vieux Telegraphe Blanc

First time drinking an enjoyable Rhone white! I know Nic has said he's had many disappointments over the years and so have I. Don't know the pricing on this one but, this was very nice with great minerality, spice and slightly oily, lanolin texture. Citrusy notes and nothing off putting with wonderf...

Bernard Dugat-Py GC Charmes Chambertin 2001

Sorry, another high expectation wine that didn't deliver. Great producer, expensive wine ($350),and maybe drank too young. Inky black which I thought unusual for a Burg. Oak and extraction with closed nose and not much depth makes me wonder is this wine too young and will it shine in 5-10 years or is...

Maya's Clone

Had the pleasure (maybe) of having the 2000 Dalla Valle Maya at a friends. Now this to me is California on steroids. Everything up front on overdrive. Aromatics wafting out of the glass, silky smooth with no harsh edges. Blueberry pie blowing out of the glass and perfectly balnced with soft impercept...

Re: A $40 2005 Bordeaux vs. a $40 2005 Burgundy

I have to agree with Blanquito. The Boillot Burg is drinking much better than the Cantemerle. Certainly the latter I tried six months ago I didn't enjoy but the Boillot was drinking very well. I'd think this should be a hands down win for the dark side. Not saying that I haven't also been turned in ...

Re: 2001 Ch. la Dominique, St. Emilion

Nice to see you're still eating and drinking well Alex. La Dominique has been one of our favourite right bank wines and under rated. Will have to wait for the 05's to mature as everything else gone.

Re: TN's: 2001 Vosne Romanee premier crus

Unfortunately this has been my history of sampling Burgundy over the years. Filled with bottles of disappointment. So far 2005 has changed my mind but I disagree with JimH that this is stupendous across the board. I've certainly had enough disappointments to realize the Burgundy road is not all pave...

Re: TN: 2004 Paul Pernot et ses Fils Puligny-Montrachet

I'm surprised we haven't enjoyed cheaper lobster prices this year than we have. In the Fall while visiting Maine the local papers were commenting on a bumper catch for lobster. The fishermen were complaining they had never seen prices so low. They were selling canners (10-12oz) for $1.99 at the loca...

Re: BWE Maine '09

Well Jim Danielle and I did swing through Boston Maine and New Hampshire last Fall. Cetainly enjoyed our three days in Maine. Saw the Bush compound in Kenebunkport and enjoyed a few lobster roll along the way. Fresh lobster boil was disapponting by comparison to PEI experience. Portland was neat by ...

First Message From Golfers Heaven

Congrats Jim. A little finicky signing on but here I am calling in from Bradenton Fla. So far a little slow off the tee and down a few bucks but after shooting 79 and 80 for the first two rounds. Playing with my sandbagging buddies. I'll real them in before the weeks out. Some good and some disppoin...
