Re: Premier Cru files for bankruptcy

I received the same letter indicating that there were no assets in the case but that a dividend may be possible. Not sure how all this works, but I am going to follow the instructions to see if I can get anything back.

Re: Vacation Wines

All purchased on release and stored at 56 degrees. The only wine I would recommend drinking up in the next 5 years is the Larrivet. The Lagrange had plenty in the tank and the Moulin St. Georges is entering prime drinking but can go for another 7-10 plus.

Vacation Wines

Packed up a few wines for our usual trip to the lake. 2000 Larrivet Haut Brion Opened one hour before service, no decant. Nice garnet color fading at the rim. Nice aromas of cedar, black cherry, licorice, and tobacco. Perfectly ready to go, medium-bodied with a nice glycerol mouth feel. Clean finish...

Delightful and Delicious

2004 Karthauserhof Eitelsbacher Karthauserhofberg Riesling Kabinett A lovely petrol nose of spice and white peach. An intense lemon curd flavor emerges on the mid-palate that I often associate with the best German Rieslings. This wine has a floral, fresh and mouth-watering feeling of lightness with...

Re: 3 B's; Bordeaux, Beaujolais, Bandol

No rush, with a cool cellar (~55F) and reputable provenance, 12 years or more. I will add however, that we enjoyed for it's forward character. In a good spot now and I would estimate that it will cruise for a while like this.

3 B's; Bordeaux, Beaujolais, Bandol

2006 Lagrange St. Julien After a January break from wine, this absolutely hit the spot. Dark red, youthful appearance. This is rather lush with a spicy, vibrant nose of meat, graphite, cherry, blackcurrant and a hint of oak. Rich, silky, polished effort - creamy fruit, firm tannins and a long, expr...

Opened and decanted at least 2 hours prior, yes. No rush on the 2006's though.

Happy Holidays to all.

Three Week-Nighters

2009 Château Devise d’Ardilley I must say, this is a very nice Haut Medoc for the money. A little tight on the open but decanted, this wine sings. Dark red, classic cabernet dominated nose, a nice silky mid-palate and a moderate-length finish. I remarked that this has a very ripe tannin profile wit...

Re: 2005 Brillette

Working my way through a case of the 2000 purchased on release. I like this wine; genuine and pure. Latest note on the 2000 from earlier this year: 2000 Chateau Brillette (Moulis) Dark garnet in color, dark fruit aromas soar from the glass. Seamless and integrated; this is a beautiful wine. Blueberr...

Re: Inspired...

Indeed it has...an overlooked vintage for Beaucastel, IMHO. Anyone noticed a change in style to a "cleaner" aromatic profile in recent years? Say, after '01?

By Stefan and his annual Thanksgiving notes. Over the last few days we have had: 1994 Château de Beaucastel Châteauneuf-du-Pape Splendid bottle and sadly the last of a case. Probably the best one of the lot...isn’t it always that way? Perfect cork. Decanted for sediment and served directly. Beautifu...

Beaujolais is nice, but...

After a week in Lyon and enjoying the wonderful cuisine and nouveaux Beaujolais, I needed a red Bordeaux wine. Side bar.... the Nouveaux Beaujolais is quite good this year. We started with a little sparkling Pinot Grigio from a Michigan winery on Old Mission peninsula called 2 Lads. Nice enough aper...

2000 Chateau Brillette (Moulis)

Dark garnet in color, dark fruit aromas soar from the glass. Seamless and integrated; this is a beautiful wine. Blueberries and chalk on the mid-palate and a nice smoothly-tannic finish. This wine is at peak with plenty in the tank for another 10 years in the cellar.

Re: 2010 Barolo Vintage?

The only wines I buy ahead of tasting anymore are Bordeaux. That being said, I really like the '06 vintage. 2006 is the best vintage of the decade (IMHO) and you can still get nice wines at good prices.

2003 Charles Joguet Chinon Clos de la Dioterie

Dark ruby in color with slight bricking. As I tasted this wine over the course of three days I kept saying, “this is 70’s Bordeaux”. Ripe red fruits, mineral laden mid-palate and a clean finish. Not a hint of vegetal aromas or flavors; lingers nicely and in no danger of fading. Drink after a decant ...

Re: BWE '15

As a newbie to the forum I'd like to attend an event as they sound wonderful. I travel to France quite a bit and would agree with one of the posters that May is one of the more Holiday-filled months so scheduling may prove somewhat of an issue. Other cool wine venues I'd recommend at that time of ye...

Yes, at $12.00 per bottle a case purchase was easy. A very good mid-week wine with simple fare.

2005 La Tour St. Bonnet

It took about 40 minutes to open up. High toned cherry nose and nicely balanced between fruit, acid and tannin. Good long finish with a touch of sweetness. Not the most complex wine around, but nice, pleasant, and fresh. Good with hamburgers on the grill.

Dinner wines

2000 Chateau D’Aiguilhe Cotes de Castillion Opened for two hours prior to service with pan-roasted filet mignon, garlic mashed potatoes and haricot vert. This wine appeared very young, having a dark red color. Chalky, mineral aromas and a blueberry-plum mid-palate. The finish is clipped and as the ...
