Just started and finished the intro to this on my blog.
I will be following up with specific looks at producers that I had tasted regularly or in depth with them slowly.

Re: TNs: the best wine comes from a supermarket! :-(
Oops; No, that was from the cellar! I wouldn't be sad if the Rieussec came from the supermarket. It is the Barone Ricasoli that is supermarket. The shop where we got the two corked bottles had closed ten minutes prior to me opening the bottles, leaving me to have to go to the supermarket because the...

But it wasn't the wine's fault... :( 2011 Oyster Bay; Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc lemon, lime, grass, gooseberry and tropical fruit notes, nice freshness but modern and drinkable. Nothing offensive, and with nice length. Good... But nothing to write home about! ***(*) or [4+3.5+3.5+3=14/20] 2009 R...

2008 Entity Shiraz; John Duval Wines Opened on Monday night, when it was clearly super but far too young and unpleasantly undrinkable. pepper, spice, black plum, red plum, damsons, fairly elegant nose, much softer, the oak is still prominent but doesn't blot out the fruit completely. 2008 Volnay Vieilles Vignes; Vincent Girardin spiced, rich strawberry fruit but with some prominent oak character. Soft herby notes, nice depth and poise if not a huge amount of complexity. 2008 Chateau d'Arcins; Haut-Médoc; Cru Bourgeois plum, coffee, dark fruits and hints of spicy new wood. Herbs, mint and some cool acidity. A very drinkable wine. Pleasant and will improve with age. 2011 Holland Creek Riesling, Adelaide Hills, Paracombe apples, pears, peach, ripe fruited and slightly metallic in terms of minerality, it feels Australian but not typical, it has a slightly unique grassy, herby, fruit centred mineral quality, and lacks a feeling of drinking a tank of petrol but wi...

Re: TN: an old school Barolo.
Hound, I can see where the thoughts of it drinking properly young might be appealing, as I did score it well, it was nice and drinking... But if you bought it and cellared it for 20+ years as you would expect from a classicist like this, you might be horribly disappointed, hence my scepticism. Havin...

Aha, thanks for that bit of trivia...
I have had 79 Solaia before and that is what I consider mature, if not a touch Ove the other side of the slope.
I think the 88 will be super in a couple of years.
As will the 89 l'evangile.

Re: TN: an old school Barolo.
No, a defect of the winery. There is something wrong with Oddero right now, unless you want to drink them now and they taste good.
Maybe they will stay like this for 40 years, but pre-2000 they didn't taste so developed and advanced whether at the winery of not.

With two hours in the glass, this shows more soy, earth, pencil lead, and earthy Graves character. Much more depth, and a touch more complexity.
A solid 17.5/20 and space to improve for another 5-10 years.
