2020 Chateau La Lagune revisited: This wine is absolutely gorgeous....

So before deciding to buy a full case I decided to try another bottle just to confirm whether I liked this wine as much as I thought I did the first time. Wow! This wine for my taste is just brilliant. The fruit is just so pure and ripe but the class and terroir of the estate just keeps everything r...

Re: 2020 Troplong Mondot

I really enjoyed the 2019 Beausejour Becot, bought a couple extra bottles. I'm anxious to get some 19 and 20 Tropling Mondot in my cellar. Some are ranking the 2020 at 100 points.

lol, by the end of the night Winona was telling us that the rat had developed a taste for Pichon Lalande….

My brothers and I had those very same strato sets, including the ‘27 Yankees. The 1978 Giscours was the Jumpin Joe Dugan of the night for me.

It was great to see you and everyone else Marcs!

Re: 2020 Troplong Mondot

Thanks for the report Mike, I need to try one. I'm one who enjoyed the 2010 Tropling Mondot, in spite of / because of the alcohol that came in at about 22% I think. It was like dating a stripper. I think I'll pick up a bottle or two of the 2019 and 2020. I think NH has the 2016 for like $130ish.

I think Tommy brought that '83 Drouhin to a dinner at Black Salt a few years ago and it was beautifully a point then as I recall.
Thanks for the report BP, sounds quite sublime.

We suspected 2014 would be a great match for an estate that has been firing on all cylinders for over 30 years, I am not surprised by this note. I had the 2014 La Dame a few months back and it was a beauty. I'm heading back to Manhattan early this week, not quite sure what day I'll be coming back no...

I've not had this wine a lot over the years, Ian, it was a revelation to spend some time focused on it and examine it's nuances. I too am going to be looking to buy more, especially from 2019 and 2020.

Re: The 2016 Phelan Segur has been uncorked and other ramblings....

I found this very 2016, firm and structured but balanced, it reminded me a little of the 2016 Sociando Mallet, there is nothing wrong with drinking it at age 8, it has developed some nice nuances and goes very well with the steak, and will continue to develop and provide St. Estephe notes of berries...

Curious what The Freak thinks about that, the dichotomy between 13.5% in 2016 and 14.5% in 2019. Concerns... Founded? Unfounded?

Re: Points, scores, and ratings

It can be subtle. For me I don't take my scores too seriously, they are usually an emotional assessment after I've consumed a critical amount of a particular wine. I have no idea how the experts taste and spit dozens of samples one after another and come up with scores. I'm a Bordeaux wine ENTHUSIAS...

Yes, the 1986 Pichon Lalande used to be one of my top ten wines, it seems like "the tannins have outraced the fruit" in more recent bottles. Slightly alarmingly, I think the last three bottles of '89 Pichon Baron have been corked. I really enjoyed the dinner at Bistro Lepic. I vote for hav...

I’m glad you liked it, Nic, we were comparing notes with Jim Harrigan in DC and he agrees as well. The $28 price we’ve been getting it at is as good a deal as I’ve seen in at least a decade. I have two cases of the 2019 and a case of the 2020.

Thanks for the report, Mike, I am in no way surprised that 2019 + Leoville Barton excelled, it’s as consistent a performer as I’ve seen in my entire Bordeaux tasting career and 2019 is as good a vintage. As I reported a few weeks back, the 2019 Langoa was my favorite ever.

Jimmy uncorked the 1978 Giscours towards the end of the dinner and it was profound on the nose and palate, almost youthful, it was one of my wines of the night. Both the 1989 Pichon Lalande and 1989 Palmer were outstanding, the 1989 Pichon Baron was unfortunately damaged. I’m not sure what to make o...
