Re: TN: Two clarets from the 1994 vintage

Thanks for the notes - I have both of these wines and while I don't rate them quite as high, I do find them very enjoyable and classic.

Photos from BWE 2010

I just uploaded my photos from BWE 2010 to Flickr - http://www.flickr.com/photos/77854241@N ... 621586045/

Hopefully everyone can see them. That was a lot of fun - Lisa was unhappy she missed it. I think she will be there next year...

Re: BWE 10 Friday - Burgundy?

Just got back to the room after a great night of Burgundy. Great company and great wines. Standouts for me were the 2005 Drouhin Clos Vougeot and the 1996 Rousseau Ruchottes, but it was an embarrassment of riches as usual. Looking forward to the main event...

Re: The Thursday night pre-fight card

Geez. I just got to Chicago and was so excited and now I know it will all be downhill. Who wants to drink my lame 1990 Yquem when the single greatest wine I have ever tasted, the 1967, has already been busted out?

That is a pretty high bar. I wish I had gotten here a day earlier.

I came close - one of the bottles I shipped out for Saturday night is a 1982 Gruaud Larose. Sounds like that will be a well represented estate!

Re: BWE '10 Saturday Night Dinner: Champagne reception

We will drink much better if we bring Champagne from our cellars. The downside is the weight of the bottles to ship/lug. I would think all things considered it might be easier if we just pony up the cash - that way we all drink the same thing. But if someone brings vintage Krug I will hold my glass ...

Re: ATTENTION - WINE SHIPMENTS FOR BWE 10

This will work for me. If it were the middle of summer I would be worried about storage, but at the end of March, not so much. Bordeaux can handle room temperature in styro shippers for a few days. Thanks for arranging this! I know every step of the way is real work for these events.

Any locals volunteering yet to accept wine shipments in advance? I would greatly prefer to ship my wine to Chicago in advance than check it on the flight out.

Re: BWE 10 - Friday Night 2007 Rhones

I don't think I have any "worthy" 2007 Rhones - I just bought the classics like VT, Pegau and Beaucastel that won't be ready for 10 years and won't peak for 20. Anyone want to have 1981 and 1983 VT instead? Anything from 2007 is going to be like a barrel sample at this point.

Indeed. My 80 year old father who was in the Army from 1946-1948 has no problem talking about it - he was a clerk-typist at Fort Knox. His brother, who fought in France in 1944 and stayed in the Army Reserves until he retired a general - never.

I can add a bit of color to Bill's post... The excellent Salon was a 1995. Very ripe and ready to drink although will likely hold. Not nearly as evolved/oxydized as I am used to in the Salon style, full and tasty. The Beaucastel was a 1998. This was about as clean as Beaucastel gets. Pure red fruit ...

PC considers wine to be sourced when they think they can get it, not necessarily with firm orders. I have very little wine outstanding with them now, but just followed up on some 2005 BDX. On Sociando Mallet, they said they had it sourced but it just hadn't made it over yet. On some Leoville Barton ...

Re: TN: 1995 Domaine du Vieux Télégraphe Châteauneuf-du-Pape La Crau

VT ages for a very long time. 1981 and 1983 tasted in the last year are still going strong. The 1995 is very classic CdP and still getting better and more complex. Kermit Lynch just came out with the 2007 VT offer and I bit, mostly to get odd bottle sizes as he just sets aside juice and then bottles...
