Re: NHL Stanley Cup Finals
Of course it is the Hound. And for all the Bobby Clarke haters-you wouldn't care except he was a winner! And he led the Flyers to a win over the Soviet Red Team. Where were the other teams who won???

Re: Can someone explain this Suckling quote to me?
I have usually heard it talked about barometric pressure, hence the Suckling quote.

Re: Can someone explain this Suckling quote to me?
I also have heard this periodically, but I have usually only heard this with regard to Burgundy tastings. (I always lumped this in with all the other excuses Burgophiles use to explain why their wine didn't show as well as expected.) This is the first time I can recall where the weather was used to ...

Re: Asimov: Bordeaux...is now largely irrelevant
It has to be said that they made their own bed and need to lie in it. The ridiculous higher end Bordeaux pricing, the too married at the hip Parker lovers (waiting to see his scores before releasing their prices), and the archaic multitier releasing structure. They are praying the Asia will save the...

I have not had good luck with both Conseillante and Clinet. The failure rate is over 50% in my limited experience. I spend my money elsewhere these days.

2009 Chrismas Dinner Wines
I had the wonderful pleasure to host a Christmas dinner with friends and family. These are the wine notes, such as they are.: I did not get to taste the 2002 Doennhoff Niederhauser Hermannshoele Spatlese, but I decanted for a few hours and the nose was typical and wonderful. My impressions of the ot...

Re: 2009 Gewurzathon
David, Yes, one has to like the grape, and Beth gathers a group of Gewurz-o-philes for this dinner. It is a more versatile grape than people give it credit. But there was discussion that the grape is getting harder to find, partly a decrease in imports. (In NJ, Alsace for the most part has to be ord...

2009 Gewurzathon
Beth Sheligo yearly hosts a Gewurzathon-that’s right all Gewurztraminer all the time. She cooks a dinner purposely designed to go with Gewurz’s unique properties. (Lovingly nicknamed by Arthur Johnson ‘Gewurz till it hurts’.) These are my notes, such as they are. 1-2007 Darting Durkheimer Nonnengart...

Re: TN: 2004 Peter Michael Chardonnay Ma Belle-Fille
David, I have always felt the higher end Chards do better with 4-6 years of age. Gives them time to mellow that oak treatment. A recent 2005 PM Belle Cote showed wonderfully. I would buy a fair amount of the 2007s, and have, but not touch them for a few years. Also, I like them red wine serving temp...

Perse isn't involved with Pavie Macquin. From their web site: "Pavie Macquin is a property admirably situated on the top of the plateau of Saint Emilion. The realisation of the enormous quality of the property, as well as the will-power to produce a wine worthy of the terroir, began with the ar...

Wow, Stuart. I guess you do not like the 88 vintage. To me, it and 2001 are the best past vintages in the past 30 years. To each his own.

So Jim is in the Dark Side? THAT explains him naming the 2005 "village" Burgs at WOTY 2008. And as someone who could not be present at the convention, I could only read the tasting notes and live vicariously. But I couldn't help but notice the relative silence concerning the 2005 "vil...

Re: Margaux the Magificent - but not always
Stu, interesting notes. It would seem that you are swimming upstream with regard to a lot of other reviewers, but your taste and notes are what they are. But you are a hard marker as I gave a rare 100 points to the 2000 Margaux, and you only gave 98!

The 2001s are no brainers. Christoffel did well. But I might pass the 2004-Christoffel had a rough patch around then. But anything above Kabinett level are still closed, IMO. So hold them a few years longer.

Re: Maya's Clone
Danny, good memory. I brought the 1991 Maya and the 1994 Harlan. My reasoning was that these grapes used in Maya were similar in percentages to Cheval Blanc. I wanted to give some people a chance to taste something completely different. I thought it was great. The Harlan got more praise, but I could...
