Re: The Great 2022 Wine Buying Freeze has begun!

On a statin, so am glad I have commited to buy no wine and drink half as much from my 470 bottle cellar.

I know I will go one day, but by sugar, liver or Covid is not my plan.

TN: 2013 Chateau de Bel-Air, Lalande de Pomerol

I have consumed a scant amount of newer vintage Bordeaux, post 2004. Isn't 2013 considered a sucky vintage? With little Merlot in the cellar I took a chance on closeout for $8. Popped and then stinkaroo nose greets me. Into the decanter for 1.5 hours and the stench blows off. The vineyard is 35 year...

Nic, come on, don’t you listen to your doctor? Your wife? Your friends? Or is your mind too big to listen to anyone but yourself? You may be joking or half joking, but it’s just silly. Alcohol is a poison, a break can be wonderfully refreshing especially as you get older. I am listening to my docto...

Re: The 2022 Wine Buying Freeze Thread — Now Beginning 1/1/21!

I am in a freeze, a very deep freeze. Consumption must be reduced, so more buying is out of the question.

It will need to last years to whittle down my cellar.

1998 Montelena Estate Cabernet Sauvignon, after decanting for 30 minutes or so, the wine was fully resolved with nice mouthfeel and tertiary flavors, a little puckering acidity but perfect balance. To everyone's surprise it worked great with a homemade beef and vegetables in a Thai green curry sauc...

Nice trip, I need to get back to OR. I hear good things about Violin. I have not had any recent Evesham Wood, but they were great when Russ was the man and good things have continued with Erin. Good value for the quality. SI always delivers, with the exception of a 2011 Momtazi I had last week! Of c...

I will hold my last bottle for another 5 years.

Another great gathering with the Sacramento gang. I did not take any notes, but my 2 favorites were Latour a Pomerol and Trotanoy. Not far behind were La Grave a Pomerol and La Croix St George. The Moulin initially came across and ripe an rich and I did not revisit it. The Auslese was a gift from Pa...

I find the quality level to be higher in CC Normale than in generic Chianti. With the bright acid it matches up to a wide variety of foods.

I wonder if the terroir in that part of California is best suited for Rhone varietals?

I enjoyed 95 Calon Segur the other night. Nicely developed nose and secondary flavors with cedar and earth. Old school tannins still present but not too harsh.

Dinner was at Hell's Kitchen in South Lake Tahoe. A fine pairing with Beef Wellington.

Purchased in about 06 from the Zachy's sale that was touted here. Likely under $30. Perfumed Margaux berries on the nose with a touch of soil. More berries with some cedar in the mouth.
