Sorry to cause such a flurry and I dare say there's not much difference (but am making sure my first purchase here in the UK is the SV blend!) Many thanks for the expert answers. Yours for £26,000. (In bond.)
Seriously. Have just been offered it - as an investment sure-fire as Asia etc get into DRC.
Gulp.

Produttori Barbaresco 06?
Apologies if I've missed a note but has anyone tasted the later bottling of this wine, the one with the Riserva/Cru juice blended in after the decision was taken not to bottle the Riservas separately? And how do punters know which bottling they're buying? Love their Langhe 07 which is much feted on ...

Re: The finest vintage this decade is 2002 left bank.
I like left-bank 01s at least as much as 02s but the style is very different - more succulent. Montrose 01 is one of the best wines in my cellar, Barton is at least as good as the 03 (tasted side by side not long ago) and Pontet delicious - probably better than the 04.

Re: The finest vintage this decade is 2002 left bank.
I joined this board partly because of its bullish take on 02 Medocs and I nominated Poyferre 02 for BWE wine of the year - but I have to sound a slight note of disagreement today: for one, I found Armaillhac too lean/green/dull and a recent bottle of St Pierre was dry and unbalanced. Side by side I ...

And I love the 04 (and the almost as good 03). Jancis posted a report on an enormous vertical tasting. Full of praise. The only 09 I've bought. Suggest BWE adopts it as its mascot-claret. Is there a better sited, better value wine from the left bank? (And yet you hear rumblings from some about it be...

I was resolutely decided against buying anything but have just succumbed to 2 cs of Sociando Mallet as the price (£245 in bond) was way below market (c£310 in bond): at c£26 a bottle all-in and delivered it's cheaper than things like Ormes de Pez etc. Very positive tasting-notes, including from Jono...

Checking on these from my cellar, over a few days: - Glana: this was cheap but today I find it rather over-extracted (I gather the 09 is as well, if Decanter are to be believed) - Gloria: again good value but, as before, I find it a bit diffuse and commercial though an undeniably jolly glass at the ...

Re: Brunello/Rosso di Montalcino roundup: 18 wines, 10 estates
Forgot to add a note on the alleged greedy prices of Brunello. The best and most expensive wine in this round up is the Fuligni Brunello 04, still (despite some very big scores) around in UK for c£35. This is world-class wine. What does £35 get you from an equivalently good claret vintage, 05? Answe...

Moulin de la Rose - tiny much parcellated St Julien made up of prime St Julien vines through the commune, I think mostly near the Gironde. Owned by Guy Delon, cousin of the Las Cases Delons. A favourite of veteran British writer Clive Coates but, till the 06 vintage, never I think sold to the UK en ...

Brunello/Rosso di Montalcino roundup: 18 wines, 10 estates
Very exciting for an old git like me, who thought claret and burgundy were all there was to life, to fall in love with the wild loveliness of well made 100% Sangiovese from Montalcino. Have been obsessively buying, tasting, reading. Lively debates about whether the zone has expanded too fast (quadru...

Thanks Ian! The Salvioni Rosso 07 is superb - another piercingly pure wine with chalky tannins that soften over the evening - this is certainly Brunello standard and worth the £26. Glad I got the last case.

I've been behind 06s on this board for some time - check out Dom de Chev, Gruaud, Lagrange, Durfort, Gloria, Cantemerle.
Left bank 06s seem to me to have the best qualities of 04 and 02 combined, and better than those vintages - both of which (especially 04) I like very much.
