Re: Next Spring: 25th anniversary celebrations in France and Washington DC.

I like it Mr Flaneur, my trial schedule is a little tricky into March 2025, usually we have done the annual BWE conventions around April 1st, very preliminarily and without looking up religious holidays etc I’m wondering how Thursday April 3 to Sunday April 6, 2025, looks for the Trump USA conventio...

Next Spring: 25th anniversary celebrations in France and Washington DC.

Just thinking out loud, not that I see BWE ending any time soon but I think as we've all reached our long plateaus of maturity and have maybe slowed down our drinking and partying habits just a bit, I've been wondering if there might be any interest in a "last hurrah" type celebration of B...

Re: ‘Best of the best’ first growths dinner

A brilliant report from Mr. Flaneur as usual. 1988 Lafite en magnum. OMG. Stefan, that 88 Lafite sneaks up on you, more than once it has been under the radar but then as the night evolves, as appears to have been the case with the London tasting, it demonstrates its otherworldliness. It is one of my...

I still say this will be a 200 year wine Nicola, I think you were standing there in Montreal when JM Cazes's daughter told us the '89 was her father's favorite vintage. To me it is the ultimate Pauillac. I now have six bottles. They don't give them away anymore, these will likely be my last six.

Ha Gerry, I was discussing this with Joel the other night, it is weird how the '89 Lynch seems to have closed down even more in recent years. I'll probably hold off on them for at least five years.

1989 Chateau Lynch Bages, the greatest wine ever produced....

Five bottles just delivered from Flickinger, now safely stored in the cellar.
They appear pristine, with spinning capsules....

Re: 2000 Sociando Mallet

I enjoyed 7 of the 12 bottles I drank from my case of 2000 Sociando. I wasn't as off-put by the greenness as some, this is a trait of the 2000 Pichon Lalande that many seem to find a positive rather than a negative.

Re: ‘Best of the best’ first growths dinner

The best showing I've ever had of 1996 Lafite was with you, Mr. Vino, when you, Mrs. Vino and others came to Maine. I poured two half bottles into a decanter and decanted about three hours before you guys arrived. It was singing.

Re: ‘Best of the best’ first growths dinner

Oh yeah. Sadly I only have 3 bottles of 1996 Lafite left. I remember when my buddy Steve and I drove from Maine to Springfield, Mass., I think it used to be called the Big Y, they must have had 20 cases of the stuff out back there, I bought ten bottles for myself and I think I bought 3 bottles for J...

Re: Dinner at Bistro Lepic in Georgetown with BWE friends…

I can't impress enough, and I'm going to press this issue, I'd really like to see us do a BWE dinner at this venue at least every quarter. I thought the food was excellent but more importantly the restaurant ownership was so sweet, they were as nice as I've dealt with in my quarter century fine dini...

Re: Dinner at Bistro Lepic in Georgetown with BWE friends…

1986 Gruaud Larose is one of the ultimate BWE wines, Stefan brought two bottles to the very first convention in Chicago in 2001. It was memorable then, and memorable now. The 1982 and 1986 Gruauds are both in my top ten favorite Bordeaux wines ever.

Go Detroit, Milwaukee, Philadelphia, and Atlanta. I still can only chuckle when I remember the red faced Orange Man after midnight during the last election, calling for a stop of the count in Michigan, knowing what was coming. Yes, Orange Man, you won Michigan if we don’t count the votes in Detroit ...

Re: Dinner at Bistro Lepic in Georgetown with BWE friends…

The occasional field mouse seems to make its way into my cellar, those little pricks can nibble at shit impressively as well but my Pichon Lalandes seem to be safe and sound. Those 22 bottles of 2016 Lafite on the other hand, I'm going to take a closer look....

Ha, I literally got an email from Hedonism today for the first time since I bought a couple of our London wines there. They were actually very nice, I would have no qualms about buying some La Lagune from them.

So I got one of those silver box frommages.com deliveries from the mother country yesterday, the ones that must stink up the FedEx delivery truck, that's why they get rid of it before 11am, brilliant! I'm sipping this wine with a cheese called Saint Nectaire Auvergne. Life is good.
