Re: Blanquito, Winona, Musigny-151, et al: Champagne tips?
MacArthur carries many of the producers mentioned above, just take a look at their website. I am also a fan of Agrapart 7 Crus that Jacques mentions. Bereche Brut Reserve is another good sub $50 NV. I do like Egly Ouriet and Cedric Bouchard but they have gotten a lot more expensive lately. I like Ve...

A few favorites in the $80 to $100 price range are: 2008 Delamotte BdB, 2008 Jean Laurent BdB and Cedric Bouchard BdN Val Vilaine. Some of my favorite Champagnes producers are only available at Schneider’s of Capitol Hill: Bertrand Delespierre, Jean Laurent and Demiere (they make several different o...

Had another bottle of Taittinger Prélude tonight. Got several bottles on sale for upper $60s and low $70s at Calvert-Woodley. Very nice Grand Cru NV in that price range. Krug, Cristal, Dom Perignon and Taittinger Comtes are almost always wonderful and are favorites of mine. That 2008 Cristal sure is...

Tonight, a very Red Burgundy like rose Champagne, 2012 Bertrand Delespierre Saignee des Terres Amoureuses with soft shell crabs and blackened crispy skin salmon. The seafood was takeout from a restaurant a few blocks from our house. Very happy with the food and the Champagne.

Re: What are we drinking in lockdown?
I occasionally splurge (like $40 - $60) on a big name German Riesling but am generally quite happy with the good selection that is available here in the DC area for $25 - $40. Really not tempted by the very high end stuff.

That 1990 Leoville Poyferre sure is a wonderful wine. I think I still have a couple bottles of it down in the cellar. Tonight, we shared a bottle of 2015 Keller Limestone Kabinett. Now this is a really great classic German Riesling. About $30 and worth every penny. What zinging acidity with nice fru...

My last bottle of 1982 Leoville Barton had a very leaky cork - fill was about 1.5 inches below the bottle’s shoulder - smelled like Madeira. Didn’t drink any.
Generally very good experiences with 1982 Canon.

Re: What are we drinking in lockdown?
Couple days ago, 2011 Fritz Haag Brauneberger Juffer Sonnenuhr Riesling Spatlese was a little too sweet and a little short on acidity (for my taste) - a bit disappointing considering its status. Tonight, going with nv Laurent-Perrier Rose. Easy drinking and very pleasant Champagne.

I finished off all of my 1998 Faugeres (about a dozen half bottles) some years ago. I thought they drank well young - nice fruit but not very complex. Well worth the $8 that I paid for each 375.

Those 2009 red Burgundies were so good young and they are still really great these days. Kind of reminds me of 1985 red Bordeaux - many of them never had a closed up stage.

More German Riesling recently: 2012 Von Schubert Maximin Grunhaus Abtsberg Spatlese (this was another Wow wine) and 2011 Von Hovel Oberemmeler Hutte Spatlese (very nice and fruity but not as intense as the Abtsberg). Both 8.5% alcohol.

We had another 375 of the 2012 La Fleur de Bouard a couple nights ago. A nice, moderately rich, uncomplicated very merlot wine. Got a whole bunch of these for cheap a few years ago when MacArthur was remodeling the store - everything on the floor was 20% off.

Blanquito, As a long time aficionado of German Riesling, I am embarrassed to say that I was unaware of issues with the 2006 vintage. Howard Cooper pointed out to me just yesterday that many 06s lacked the necessary acidity, also saw Salil’s pretty negative tasting note on Cellar Tracker. Chris Bublitz

I’m a big fan of that 2009 Chevillon Vaucrains - just delicious, great fruit but not over the top. May have a bottle or two left. Getting pretty pricey these days, I think current releases of this are around $150 in the US.
