Re: Retailer check: Circle Liquors, Somers Point, NJ
Seems like nobody has purchased here. I called, they were responsive and friendly, said they had water on the floor of the store and lost power for 2 days in Sandy, but also that the wine I was interested in was a more recent arrival. Of course, who knows about the distributor! So I'll give them a t...

Re: Poll... In light of HWSRN scores, is 2010 a disappointment?
There are some similarities to 2005. RP in his first two of 3 reviews cautioned about the high tannin levels in the northern Medoc. Then in the in-bottle review said that the wines came together and was taking away his caution flag. He also did this in 2010, saying in the in-barrel reviews comments ...

Re: The feeding frenzy commences... RMP rates 2010
We have our eye on your Angelus vertical, David! I'm the proud new owner of a case of 2010 Larcis Ducasse, which at $80 was about $30 less per bottle than the 2005. Interestingly RP rated the 2010 only 98+, saying it wasn't quite as good as the perfect 2005 (which was rated 98). The perfect score mu...

Re: The feeding frenzy commences... RMP rates 2010
2010 Bordeaux from Bottle This is clearly another very great vintage in Bordeaux. When I first discussed the wines in Issue 194 (5-2-11), I didn’t think it exceeded in overall quality the Bordeaux that was produced in 2009, 2005 or perhaps even 2000, but I think it’s safe to say that, other than 20...

Re: Demand for 2010 Bordeaux
So did anybody answer the original question "So do we think there is a market for 2010 Bordeaux in this country?" Did the BD's lifting of the edict result in pent up demand flooding the vaults of PC with orders? My guess....demand in the US for 2010 is less than 2009, is less than 2005. Re...

I haven't purchased any more 2010. I was tempted by PC prices, as they were under what anybody else had for many wines, but their thin supply of below-retail pricing seems to have been sold out in the last couple of days. Looking at Wine Spectator's top 50 wines of the vintage, almost all were at re...

My sole tasting of DRC was a 1962 La Tache provided by an enthuisast at a 3 person get-together in the late 1980s. This was well before I became an enthusiast, but my friend alerted me that it was a "$600 bottle of wine." It was remarkably complex, earthy, silky; lightly colored compared t...

I stopped by Garagiste last week to see what they had on hand and picked this $13 bottle for dinner. A great bargain, the bouquet of apple, peach, lime and a hint of carmel roared out of the bottle. I don't think polarity is an appropriate analogy. I think the solar system is more apt. At the center, large, round, warm, begnign, and with an irresistable and compelling gravity is Parker. Without him nothing is possible. Around him orbit all other critics. Some are planet-sized, some, like the m...

What a tough job he has....sitting in that apartment tasting wine all day except Sundays. I'm not so sure Tanzer is an anti-flavor elite; or that the modern trend (for vignerons is towards moderation). What I do notice in his reviews is that he loves Burgundy, he loves many white wines, and there is...

I'd say "in general" they are not worth buying, but certainly some are in great vintages. In general I find Washington, Cotes du Rhone, Burgundy, and Chianti to have more compelling value wines, but I do buy and try some from Bordeaux values too.

When I tasted 2008s at UGC, almost all the wines had this mouth puckering acidity. Maybe that's the way they were showing at that particular night, but it may show Gilman's palate preference toward more acidicity....which is consistent with how he also ranks Burgundy vintages.

At 1,602 bottles of red Bordeaux, that's 42% of my cellar, followed by Burgundy 15%, and then Washington State, Rhone, Italy, Germany, Champagne, Bordeaux stickies. The single largest wine is 2003 Pontet Canet (53); largest producer holding Cayuse (Washington State).

Interesting. I have a few bottles remaining, but have been trying 1 bottle a year since 2008 and my impression was that the wine was still closed (e.g. Oak, no fruit). Maybe that's the best this wine gets? I'm still hoping rp had it right.
