Haut Brisson 2017: Day one: Big, chunky, luscious. Somewhat glossy. Needs time++
By day 2 & 3 this has mellowed and softened, evolving into something quite special. Rich, intense blueberries. Must buy some more.

Saint Pierre 2011: PNP and initially this was all chocolate and sweet fruit. A one hour decant later and this has settled down into something quite special. Mocha dominant followed by a tannic rusticity. Beautiful.

Re: 2009 Branaire-Ducru uncorked
I had this just a few months ago but am a bit confused by my tasting note on CT as everything indicates that I was enjoying it but I finished with a "didn't wow me"? Maybe I was expecting too much. I scored it 91.
Thanks for the tasting notes.

Re: What are we drinking in lockdown?
Yes, I was planning on skipping the 17s as well, Jim (I didn't buy any EP) but based on yesterdays tasting am contemplating getting some Calon Segur & Bourgneuf. Your more knowledgeable posters will have a better overview of the vintage than me, but from what I have read, I believe it was deemed...

Re: What are we drinking in lockdown?
Went to a 2017 Bordeaux tasting yesterday with some friends. As is often the case with these “free for all” tastings, my notes were reasonably detailed at the beginning but by the end, were nothing more than quick scrawls and/or a quick score out of 100. In order of preference with some brief notes:...

Re: Best buys in the 2014 vintage?
Agreed - the 2014 Calon Segur is going to be something quite special in time IMO. I’ve been wanting to backfill on the 14s as well but they are increasingly hard to find, aside from auction. A couple of other recommendations would be Bourgneuf (an estate I'm falling for again) and one from left fiel...

Is that the "Marcel Lapierre" Morgon? Reason I ask is that a local stockist has it available (on allocation). Its a 19 though, so assume it would need laying down.
The Morgon I have, but not yet tried, is a Domaine de Bel Air Morgon Les Charmes 2018.

Re: (TEL) Why Everyone Has Been Buying Beaujolais This Year –
I'm just starting to get into Beaujolais and begin my education in this area having been (surprisingly) impressed by the quality/value of some that I've tried recently. Morgon sounds like a sub region I might like as they are described as being more bold and full bodied than others. I've picked some...

Grand Puy Lacoste 2017: Distinctive floral, perfumed nose. Surprisingly light bodied initially but opened up and filled out in time. Long, lingering finish, cassis and cranberries(?), nicely balanced. Good, but didn't hint at being special. Château Esperance de Trotanoy 2014: Chocolate, raisins, ful...

Enjoyed this. Red currants, luscious and smooth, with a beautiful long finish.
Will buy more and look to learn more about this region. At $25 (NZ) this is great value.

30 Years – Time to Celebrate!!!
Today, Liverpool FC won their 19th title after an incredible 30-year wait. Incredible, as the last time they won the league in 1990 (I was 17) they were simply winning titles for fun.
