I liked your post Ian. So my vote is a value pick. La Lagune. I drink much more LL than Pichon L.

Jimmy, I tend to like Oregon Chardonnay because most have little or minimal oak. I like mine crisp and minerally.

Bday wine 2003 Domaine St. Martin Chambertin-Clos de Bèze
Celebrated my 71 birthday by going to dinner with Linda and taking a 2003 Domaine St. Martin Chambertin-Clos de Bèze. Patrick Lesec is a Burgundy negociant so I have no idea who made this wine. Of course 2003 was problematic so I had no idea what was in the bottle. The Som destroyed the cork, it had...

Re: So what have you bought lately?
I like SI's Chardonnays. They are reasonably priced for summer quaffing. They generally are more on the mineral side with clean fruit and minimum oak. No butter! I much prefer Willamette Chardonnays to Cali. I also like Walter Scott, Goodfellow, and Haden Fig (Evesham Woods).

News from Oregon. The relatively new winery Lingua Franca (Larry Stone project) announced that it had been purchased by Constellation Brands. I assume that Larry and crew would have preferred to stay independent but sales weren't sufficient to cover expenses, especially given the disaster of 2020. I...

2019 Faury Cote-Rotie.
I've had Faury's Cote-Rotie in the past so I when I saw this bottle at the local store I grabbed it. This is a beautiful wine and, I suspect, this is in the BWE wheelhouse. It's a Kermit Lynch import and priced around $70 a bottle. Faury uses only 20% new barrels so the oak influence is minimal. It ...

If you guys want something cheap and not overdone, buy some wines from Castillon, Puisseguin St Emilion and Montagne St. Emilion. Fronsacs will do nicely as well.

I bought my wines to drink and that I will do. Should I go to the great tasting room in the sky before my last bottle, Linda can sell what remains or give it to my daughter.

I haven't tasted my 2016 SM yet. I notice in your description there is no mention of the herbal, green component that at time can be dominant and in some years, overwhelming. Any comments on this issue?

I have consumed a few 2018s. While the the sample size is relatively small, I too came to the conclusion that the wines very ripe. No doubt, some will love that style.

Re: The 2018 Chateau Capbern
I thought it was a well made bottle of Bordeaux. Modern in style. Medium plus body and as mentioned low acidity. At $40.00 a bottle it does not seem to be a value purchase anymore as there are many really fine wine in that price range. Yes, 18s seems to be rich, dark, very ripe and low acidity.

I opened a second bottle just for safe measure. This bottle is not nearly as heavy. Still very dark on the palate, but weightwise this bottle, it's medium. Agree with Arv, this bottle will take some time.

The critics seem to be raving about this wine (90-95). I admit, it is a well made wine and if you are into modern, Cali styled Margaux, this is your wine. I read one critic say this is an elegant wine; not for me. This is either a heavy mid-weight or a light heavy weight. It is a full bodied Margaux...

A few 2018s while on vacation
\Just returned from a few weeks in Hawaii and found some interesting Bordeaux at Costco and a local grocery. The first is the 2018 Lafon Rochet. I found this wine to be a perfect medium. Medium bodied, medium plus tannins and medium minus acidity. The tannins are only slightly gruff as opposed to ro...

Great report Bill. Glad the brisket went well. Where does Snow's ship from? A bbq sauce that I recently discovered is Oakland Dust from a joint in of all place Oakland. It is not as sweet as some of the KC style sauces and it has a molasses profile. It's good. Have a Merry Christmas. The other Bill.
